PICS: Knox City Cruise Night

So I went to the 2nd Cruise Night held at Knox City shopping center this year, now that daylight savings has kicked in. A fair amount of cars both old and new and LOTS of classics to be seen. Alas for every classic there was a fully sick VN commodore lowered with 20" mags mait!

This event occurs on the second tuesday of each month all the way through to March next year and is only $1 entry if I recall and $2 if you want to drive your car in. I might take the Munro in next month and put it alongside all the other yellow ones.

Ryan, BUY it. The 10-22mm is an awesome lens. It actually uses L glass internals but is not classed as an L lens because it is EF-S and will not fit their full frame bodies.

Trust me, you will LOVE that lens and it loves car and cloud photography.

So these were taken with a 10-22? If so, i can see what I will be buying soon. There is only so much you can do with kit lens'.

Nah, these were taken with my 17-35 (lens before the 16-35). The 10-22mm is what you'd use on a 1.6 crop like you have so you'd multiply the lens by 1.6 to get roughly 10*1.6 - 22*1.6 or 16 - 35.2mm. If that makes sense.

Full frame body + 16-35mm = 1.6 crop body + 10-22mm

Does THAT make sense?

It's out the back carpark, open area behind the AMF bowling. You come in from the burwood hwy entrance. As soon as you drive in from that entry point, it's directly on the right. Can't miss it. $1 entry or $2 if you wanna put your car in.

Ok, got there last night at around 7ish and met up with Curtis and Huggies (with his phone sex voice). Gromz arrived a little later but didn't get to meet him and then I spotted Wonkimus Maximus. Highlights tonight included two black Valiant Chargers (one R/T), an immaculate AC Cobra with LS1 CSV tweaked engine, the Walkinshaw enhanced VE Maloo R8 and two white VE SSs with black stripes. One lost his rear spoiler on the way there.

Were some very :drool:worthy cars there. As a 50+ yo I have a soft spot for early Monaros as they hit the scene when I was about 14. There were a couple of lovely HK 327s there last night and even a HT in that metallic dark green with gold stripes - the guy over the road from us had one when I was a kid but I haven't seen one that colour for years!

Thanks mate :) i also have a 17-40mm lens and a 28-135mm lens.

All i had on me were the crappy 18-55mm and 75-300mm lenses that came with my newer EOS 400D... Still i got some decent shots while there was enough light and try to make do with some photoshop tricks lol :)

Don't forget, the next Cruise Night is on Tomorrow night at Knox City (Tuesday 8th Jan from 6pm). This is usually the biggest one of the season so if you've got a classic, bring it along for $2 entry into the carpark or if you've got anything from a pin-hole camera, to mobile phone to top-of-the-line DSLR, walk in for $1 and enjoy these classics.

Thanks Jussi. I was disappointed when it got to magic hour (or blue hour) because half the cars had pretty much left. It's one of the best times to get a photo of the car with some nice warm lighting. Oh well.

No, it was GMC 396 - SteveK has it in his pics above. Does anybody here know anything about that car? I'm wondering if it was the RHD 68 Camaro SS my brother used to own. We had to sell it basically in bits for a pittance in 1994 after he was killed in an accident and later heard that it had been resprayed yellow. Not too many RHD 68 SS's around, especially in yellow!

I have a Canon 20D and for these shots was using the 10mm-22mm EFS lens. It's a great lens for the small format cameras and give some excellent results.

it looks like it may be moved on sooner then we thorght

Well i heard some very disturbing news tonight. From what we can work out There were some under cover police walking around Knox last night, one fella was stop by a guy with a little girl in tow and asked him some questions about his car, such as if he had had the car engineered or not as well as the tyre size and the like.

This friend thought nothing of it until he got on to Burwood highway. He was stop and the police asked for his engineers report and also the wheel and tyre size and was busted and yep yellow sticker.

Some of us thought it was just bad luck.

Coincidence???? i don't think so.

Scene number 2.

Another fella stopped by a bloke again with a little girl in tow same sort of questions and bingo once on the highway was pulled up also for the same things as he was asked about by the other guy.

Scene number 3.


Another guy waiting to leave was asked buy this guy with kid in tow if his late model Falcon Ute had a supercharger on it?? This bloke answers his questions and next thing he knows the EPA are waiting for him up the Highway.

This to me spells trouble for all of us who attended this or any other event
So whats going to happen to Knox?? any one want to guess.

As for me i find this sort of thing below the belt. I thought the Knox Police were all for this event obviously not.


I too know of some of these incidents. I am also aware that the Boys in Blue went through the carpark later on that night, when everyone had gone bar the organisers, and gave the organisers the tally of who they had pulled over.

Does 'iso', as one of the promoters, care to comment on this.

Ive been attending Knox since it's begining and have watched it grow from 20 cars to over 500, which were there the last night.

Having seen what happened to Croydon & then Boronia, is this the next event to Die?

Maybe a reassuring word from the organisers, along with an Action Plan they have to keep the Boys in Blue off our Backs, would help keep this event as Great as it is.

I wouldn't pay much attention to that, the original poster hasn't provided evidence of where he got those stories from.
I know a lot of people that where there last night and most of them with very wild rides. Not one of them was hassled.

edit: I should add, he actively tries to scare people with later model vehicles from turning up to events like these.

I know in some other cruises they've reverted to chrome bumpers only and I certainly hope this is the case with Knox as it's becoming a free for all of late.

EDIT: You cant stop it Hug the problem is that the carpark is also a staff carpark and theres probably 20-30 cars already in there before the night starts. So really they have no right to take over the whole thing and keep people out.

Well, you can filter them out and minimise the impact. There are folks at the gates letting people in and they look like they could handle knocking people back. No Chrome? Go Home!!!

It's just like a forum, you get the regular sensible folk attending the threads for years with no hassle. One idiot gets wiff of it and tells his mates about it and it degenerates into a "Hey lets cruise, we'll meet up at bell st maccas then head to chapel st" threads. :) Just an analogy folks, settle down.

It's a shame because there are a lot of nice modern cars that turn up as well which I think deserve to be there.

Maybe a trict policy for who they actually let through the gates (once it's started obviously, not much you can do for the car that are already parked there). I saw plenty of cars come through after 6 that should not have been in there.

Idiots can own chrome bumpered cars also, case in question was the purple charger that screamed past me going over the Scoresby/Burwood Highway intersection while I was on the way home in the SS. Cop came out of no where & flashed his lights on behind me, I was in the right lane & pulled over into the left thinking WTF have I done when he screamed past me & pulled up the chrome bumpered charger. Nice little car though


It was a great night weather as spot on. I took my dog down for a walk around the cars, he wasnt to fussed about the cars but loved all the pats he got, had to drag him towards the end as he got tired & wanted to go home LOL. I took some pics & will get them up ASAP.

It would be a pity if this event was moved on (since it is 5 mins from my house LOL) as it is a great atmosphere to have all these cars around just chilling out & swapping yarns.

As it got later they were knocking back cars, as a guy pulled up in a Typhoon & the word he got was sorry we are nearly full, we are letting in customs only. He was not a happy camper I tell you. LOL

Lets hope that, that story is a bit of a myth... I make sure i leave at the same time as a few mates... As i am less likely to be hassled if we are in a group of 3-4 nice cars... Also keeps the dickheads that want to try and drag race us from every set of traffic lights!

I like how croydon use to be, There was a guy who stood at the drive way who decided who was worthy to come in or not. It was similar at boronia.

I took my ute to last months one, and parked it in the multi-level carpark... IMHO where all the daily drivers should park... My ute might be faster than a heap of the muscle cars there. But it's NEVER going to be as cool as an old car!

I took my Torry this month, and it was great!!! I would have been pretty pissed though, if i got there and couldn't park there because it had been filled up with late model cars, lowered with rims and a loud exhaust!

I think people are starting to get frustrated cause the popularity of the event is drawing almost too many people. I personally appreciate classics as well as moderns.. I think that's what makes it so good.. You get a wide range of cars from all periods and styles as well as quirky strange out of left field cars like the Dune buggy thing and the RIP hearse etc.. I just think maybe they should look at finding somewhere larger to hold the event if it is getting too big.. I don't think it's up to one person to judge if it's worthy of getting in or not. Everyone has there favorites..

We are going to try and help sort the parking out by directing into areas and keeping people in one spot so others can fit
try and park properly for the sake of others. All 4x4 and commercial vehicles are going to be asked to park in the multi level or out the back on the grass area.
All bikes are going to be asked to park in one area
We are going to reduce the food staff cars in the area
So this should help get more areas for cars to fit
Unfortunately it is the public staff car park for the shoppingcentre
so some cars willl be in there and we cant do anything about it
We spoke to the police and they only booked people for reasonable reasons.
Try and behave (even though i know most did, hence most people did not have any trouble) and we will have a great christmas cruise night
For those who have kids i think santa called and said he might drop in also

Dont be to down on this night, for the amount of cars and some quite wild ones at that, 6 cars were harrassed for legitimate reasons. If you behave and enjoy the night for what it is and that is a open cruise night for all to come and enjoy the cars and have a chat, not a car show that only certain carsa can only come in. If its full its full. Croydon was the same first in parked in the market and after that find a park out side in the parking lot. If this keeps getting bigger it will have to be the same. Start parking in the multi level. When people leave if you egg people on they play up then they ruin it for everyone. You all own a car in the car park, If they bring the cops from stuffing up and you are still there then you have to deal with them. I went and as much as they eye balled me everywhere i went that night they did not harrass us. We did not play up in or near the night, what you try and do out side the gates is on your own back. So pass it around that we are here to stay but we need your support to do so and trying to spread word of how bad it was is just negative feed back that no one needs."

Well, for those that braved the heat yesterday..... Good on you! It was hard work walking around in the 40' heat and a lot of the cars on show didn't handle the heat to well either. I think I saw at least 4 cars with coolant running freely onto the ground..... :doh: Anyway, I grabbed a few shots before deciding the pool was a much better place to be, so here are the first few.

It was too hot to drag myself out of the pool to make it down to this 1, will have to grab a peek next month. Some great cars once again & some fantastic pictures also.

Not many nights left now, could be just the 1 but not to sure, so to all that have wanted to come down but have not yet seen the vast collection of cars that just turn up to a carpark in Knox, to show what they have & to see what others have & just chat about stuff, well next month would be the time to do it before she shuts up shop until next summer. It is also a fundraiser night so all proceeds go to a worthy charity, they were collecting for the Fire Disaster this time.

If you get there about 6pm anyone can park there cars in there.. I make sure mines mega clean but I've parked it there.. It's pretty much first come, first serve.. Some people don't wanna show off there cars so they park down the back.. Just make sure it's clean! If your car rumbles or looks nice, people will like to check it out.

This is not correct at all. Everyone is welcome however its a case it needs to be Modified ,classic ,tuff ,clean or rare.. Ive taken my VT R8 and VT senator down and ppl loved it.

So if your bringing a VZ Calais and its stock as a rock well you prob know the answer to your question.

I am sure I have seen your plastic fantastic in the carpark before & I dont think it is up to you to go turning people off from coming down to this monthly fundraising event before it has even started. I have been going for years & have taken both the SS & the R8 down there & have never had a problem or been turned away.

Cant wait for some warm weather & cool cars, all 5 mins from home. Personally i go down to check out all the cars

I agree. Waiting for the good reflective shots and some awesome light reflections. I've got the senator out for third time in six months today, it's getting rained on, and I couldn't be happier. Love taking photo's of cars in the rain. It just adds so much character to the shots.
