Well after driving fords for a while (and hanging around the fords forum) I am thinking of making a move to the dark side and geting a VE SSV ute M6. And after taking one for a test drive that settled it. So I thought I would run it by the experts in LS1 forums who have provided me so much info during my search.
I will lease or buy it 100% FBT free as per this thread:
(new member cant post link but search for fbt in these forums)
I owe someone a beer for bringing this up (save me $$$)
I was thinking of getting Nickel Metallic but some have said this has colour matching issues on the bumpers (any comment)
only options will be tow bar, ladder racks (assume they are front and back but holden site doesn't say) tint and mats.
I live on a dirt road that gets a few corrugations, do you think 19" wheels would be risky?
I really wanted Displacement on demand and can't find out when this is comming. Is it worth waiting - it might not be available on the manuals i read somewhere.
and finally price -any body know of average discounts at the moment, I could get fleet discount (does anybody know how much that is?) or should I go through a broker (just seams dodgy to me).
thanks for any advise and hopefully i hang around these forums for a while to come

jrckelley,
I have owned a ve ssv Ute for about a month now and think they are unbelievable, (having owned vs all the way through to vz).
Nickel is a great color and have had no issue's in the vz with color match,
as for the 19s i work on a dirt road and have not really noticed a difference with 19s compared to 18 and 17 in previous vehicle's.
DOD i have heard roomers will come on near future, but i cant see it being that great, might drop consumption to 10l/100k. (good tune will achieve the same). As for discounts, not much out there, still to early, to much demand.:)

I will be selling my Mk4 supra and trading in my BA Mk2 XR6T in december and will be returning to Holden (well I never left with my HQ GTS) in a VE SSV ute :)
I am sure you will make the right choice and get 1. I know I've missed my ute since selling my VU SS Ute all those years ago.. silly idea :(

colour matching is a bit hit and miss, search carsales for a green ve ssv sedan driveaway brand new and look at the rear bar, fair few shades of green darker than the rest of the car.

I went through similar thing when the VU Maloo R8 [red] came out, had afew XR6 and XR8 utes for work, and play, always had fords, built afew, and had to have one when they came out, as Ford dont make anything like it, and being a member of the HSV club at the time, made for some great days exploring the limits.
I bought a Vy2 maloo R8 after that, hothouse green, when they came out, have had afew vehicles since, for different reasons, and just sold my 05 GU patrol ute, which was red, and had more acc value on it than the vehicle cost new [more than a VE SSV for a patrol tray too] to order a SSV [red] ute now, as the maloo is now to over the top for me, but I did get 20" GTS wheels for it, and 6 pot AP brake package, Tein coil over adj kit, and bushes for k frame, steering rack, etc to tidy the handling up, CAI, tune, and cat back exhasust for extra go will be a start, cheaper to insure, lighter, and looking forward to afew more track days etc in this one too now.
Havent had a ford since, and the wifes car is a 04 Adventra V8, the range is good bang for the buck, but dont expect euro build quality or quality control.
