Hey all how are you's? Just wondering what are the best products out there or some opinions on what people think are very good products to use on brand new paint, the colour is Morpheous which is purple, I basically just wanna protect it from elemants and maybe increase the shine or at least maintain it how it is, Any help would be appreciated.

Pinnacle Crystal Mist Carbauba Detail Spray I have found to be excellent, I have also tried the Meguirs next tech IMHO the Pinnacle is better.
Have a look at www.waxit.com.au for some more info etc, Dave from there is very helpful.

I have used a lot of car care products and I get lots of samples, it goes with my job
and I would have to say that Tech wax by Meguires is the best but a close
2nd is Ice by turtle wax
that is for the finished product, but....
for ease of use turtle wax Ice wins hands down and it has a very good shine if you had to compare it would rate at 95% compared to the tech wax
but...will save around 1/2 an hour to an hour of your polishing times
I know which one I choose
Turtle Wax Ice and it looks stunning on metalic paints IMHO

If you want bottom of the range stuff, look at Meguires, Turtle wax etc
look at www.waxit.com.au (http://www.waxit.com.au) for decent top shelf products that arent expensive.
I really good polish for the morphous (or any mid range colour ie not black, dark and not white/sliver/light) is a product called Colinite. Its a very hard wearing wax to comes up close to Zymol in gloss but lasts a lot longer. Looks gear on Impluse blues too.

I have used Megiures and Mothers for years both excellent products.
New tech is also very good but the shine is a little oily looking for mine (great for night cruises).
none of the above have much resilience and I reapply about every 2-3 weeks but Im also overly fussy.
I haven't tried Turtle ICE how long would/could you go between polishes?

Optimum Car Wax (OCW for short), classed as an All In One (AIO) used by the guys down at final Inspection and about another 30 forum members who attended a care detailing clinic a couple of weeks ago.
The other key is using quality microfibre cloths for application and removal.

if u use the wrong products to wash your car with then it will strip the wax off.
u can go a fair while in between polishes if u use next gen wax then wash your car with next gen car wash for example.
Im a car detailer and have always used Meguiars. Dont have much experience with other brands to be honest, But have had no complaints from the countless GT, Ferrari, Porche owners for example. They keep coming back so they must be happy. :)

OCW for me also, have been using it for 12 months now, easy to use, wipe on, wipe off, one cloth only needed, microfibre of course. beads for weeks, good to see Titanium and others like me putting into practise what we learnt at the clinic.

I reckon the best thing is to take your car down to Final Inspection and have a little chat with Damian. He's a really nice guy. Been really helpful to me in the past month advising me about getting started on some decent polishing waxing. I was using Meguiars before and as others say, it's a good product in the bottom range. But if you want some good quality finish on your car, then go and get some stuffs from Damian + get a RO polisher from bunnings. He'll explain everything to you.
Beware though...initial setting up cost can be around the $500 - 700 mark (products probably around $300) These would probably last you about 100 applications which ends up really cheap.
I've started to play around with my car and I can tell you one thing...it takes a while. Wont be something like 10 mins job.
If you do want that sort of quick job, then go for the OCW (mentionned earlier). I think it retails for about $30 at Final Inspection.

I see you're in Melbourne Shaun so I would strongly recommend going and talking to Damian at Final Inspection, 95 - 101 Brunswick Rd Brunswick if at all possible. He is a really nice guy and probably the most knowledgeable around on that stuff and will not bullshit you at all. He often recommends different products for different colours as he knows what tends to work best on different colours.
However, one thing he is very strong on also is that in the end it comes down to customer taste and preference. The look that one person thinks is fantastic may not appeal as much to someone else and he is well aware of that. He has probably not seen Morpheous before so you would need to go and give him a look at it. If you want to go all out you could spend a fair bit on polishes and cloths (microfibre cloths very important!) plus even a random orbital buffer if you wanted, but you can also come out of it with better products than the local car place has for not much more. For example I think his wash product is pretty cheap and OCW (Optimum Car Wax) is about $30 I think and will do heaps of applications.
As a matter of interest, post #74 of http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=73896&page=5 is how my Nickel car came up after one of his stage one details (about $160 from memory) but whatever it is if you mention you are from this forum he gives a 5% "Wonky" discount. :D If he can make Nickel come up looking that good I can't imagine how good he could bring Morpheous up!!
His stage 1 detail is suitable for new cars and involves clay barring (to remove any small surface imperfections) which makes it feel incredibly smooth and then a sealer or polish to protect it. I only ever get it washed there now (100km round trip too so I try to combine it with something else which takes me in that way) and get a coat of OCW each time to continue to protect it and make it shine.

Booked my car in at Final Inspection for a stage 2. Can't wait to see Damian's magic on the Caprice. There's a three week wait at the moment despite being open 7-days a week, which demonstrates how quickly word is spreading about this man's great workmanship and customer service.
I had a think about DIY, but when I think about the $700 start up costs, my lack of talent and all the strained muscles, I thought I'll need professional help in this matter.

Zaino Z2 with ZFX.
Very happy. I have a black SSV and it spends a lot of time outside, over 1000k's a week... I only get a chance to wash it every 3rd week or so...
First application (with ZFX) (two coats) lasted about 3 months, until it was back to where it started (new)...
Have used Meguires/Mothers polish systems over the years and re-applied every week or two (hours of application each time)... Paint looked great though...
BUT for protection, longevity and shine... Zaino Z2 is the go... Especially since I don't have 4 hours every weekend to wash/polish... :)

Yeah, the Zaino stuff used to be all the go. Damian did my VZ with it about 18 months ago (Z2 Pro/ZFX/Z8) but no longer uses it as the OCW is much quicker and easier to apply and gives at least as good a result. He does use the newer Zaino Z-AIO (All In One) and Z-CS (Clear Seal). He put the Z-AIO on as part of my stage 1 detail (see link above) and next time I had it washed he put a coat of Z-CS on, but since then has only used OCW (every time I get it washed - takes about 5 mins - wipe on, wipe off).

Thanks for all the replys guys, i think ill have to make a trip down to final inspection and see whats best for my colour, Wonky your car came up amazing in the photos i looked at after Damien had worked his magic on it, Also where do you get the OCW from and all this Zaino stuff from?

Damian has everything you need there, including all the good quality microfibre cloths. He has the OCW for about $30 I think (I never buy it as my disabilities mean I'd have to get someone else to do it for me anyway, so may as well get it done by people who know what they're doing).

Mothers also has a new product on the market which is their Mothers FX wax, my mate down in Hallam (Dunrite Detailing) has used it on my car and it worked a treat, George is behind the new Jeep/ Chrysler dealership in Hallam if anyone on the SE Suburbs of Melbourne needs a good detailer, he is the dealerships detailer and also does private cars on the premises.

Yep I agree ... I use the Klasse twins (the all in one and the Sealant) for paint cleaning and protection. A fantastic synthetic combo.
Then Pinnacle Sovereign as a Carnuabra Wax on the top .. purely for looks on the Black paint.
I've tried all sorts of combinations with different products but this is my favourite for dark coloured paintwork.

when you say using it for 12 months, how many times in 12 months have you used it, I'm curious with this microfibre cloth, I've been using cheese cloth is it better!!!!!!!

Zymol for me aswell, the Titanium is a great buy for the price and gets you about 30 applications per tub. Theres also the concours which is a good step up. I also tried the Zaino CS and that was good for protection but didn't have the beading of Zymol :)

Probably after every wash because it is that simple to apply - just wipe on and wipe off. I go to Final Inspection to get my car washed and for a couple of dollars they put a coat of OCW on every time. Means my paint is always protected.
Decent microfibre cloths are definitely the way to go these days apparently, though like everything else there are good and not so good brands (and various grades too). A good microfibre cloth will not scratch paint in the slightest.

bloody hell I better pull my finger out I've had the R8 12 months now & polished it once for a wedding in july. I use tech wax no swirls & no dust when finished, but if what your saying is so quick I might have to give it a go

My VX SS is 6 years old and does not have a swirl mark anywhere on it,
paint is better now than when I got it, for the first maybe 4 years just used the Meguiars Gold Glass and the Gold Class wash, just recently changed to the Tech Wax and the wash that goes with it, not sure if it is any better or not, as for cloths, I just bought a heap of good quality Terry Towelling from Spotlight and cut it into good size cloths and I wash and tumble dry them after each polish which I do every 3 months or so, the Terry Towelling is very soft and never had a problem with it.

I to am currently deciding what the best products are. What product would suit my 3yo BA Falcon? Its never been polished or waxed. But I don't want to put anything on that is abrasive. I just want something to bring it to life.
And in what sequence do I complete the whole process? Wash > Polish > Wax? Is there a full guide anywhere?

If you live around Melbourne just go to Final Inspection in Brunswick Rd Brunswick and talk to Damian. I do a 100km round trip there now just to get my car washed and waxed, though usually try to do it when I'm in that way for another reason too. You may find as many here have chosen to do that it's better to just hand it over to him for a stage 2 detail (from memory about $280 minus 5% LS1 member discount), though he's booked out over a month in advance I believe now or if you choose to do it yourself he has a great range of quality products you won't find in chain stores at very reasonable prices.
He is passionate about cars and detailing so will take the time to discuss what you may need. He is also very aware that different people like different looks and are on different budgets plus different products work better on various colours, so doesn't push any one thing.
