Hi All
Posting on behalf a friend. He is having problems with his CD player in his VX GTS. The radio works fine but everytime he puts a CD in its coming up with an error msg E-99. Anyone have any idea of what this is?
Cheers.

I continually had that problem in my GTO. It initially could be resolved by resetting the computer (as per manual), then I had to disconnect the battery...I know have a lovely Alpine touch screen stereo.

The reset procedure didn't ever work with mine.

Had the same issue when I bought my Senator. Lucky for me I had one lying around out of a VS from years ago that I was using in my VN. It is 100% compatible with the VT setup.

Error E-99 on the Eurovox unit means the "Microcomputer is locked".
Tell him to press and hold the On/Off button on the head unit for more than 5 seconds to unlock it, then reload the CD

Thanks for the advice guys. Ill get him to try the reset procedure that XLR8 suggested. If it fails, I guess its time for a new head unit.

From my experience the E-99 is more like an "I give up" general error.....like a Blue Screen of Death with XP.
Like I said......replacing the stacker fixed my E-99 problem, I still have the original head unit. I searched these forums and the Internet and the general consensus is the stacker is more often the problem than not.

Got mine changed under warranty 4 times over 4 years while it was a company car and it now skips/jumps tracks.
If it F^cks up again... out it comes and in goes a new system, especially now that the car is mine.
If it can't be fixed... Replace it!!! would be my suggestion as the cost of repair could be the same if not more than the cost a new one.

Did the reset procedure work for either of you? This forum is only as useful as the information posted, so an update would be of benefit for future searchers

Thought this might be handy for those searching in the future for these sort of problems with the Eurovox cd players.

It worked for me. Had the E99 error code and after holding the power button (with the radio off), it reset and works fine now. Thanks for the tip...

After having ERROR 99 probs and only temporarily fixing probs with resetting i took the cover off the stacker and observed what was actually happening. The cause seemed to be the loader after accepting cd s was not dropping them down onto the laser . A light touch with my finger and....hey presto all worked.Seemed to have slight resistance in the pivots and scissor slides mechanisms .Got out the silicone lube spray with the tube nozzle applicator and lubed all the above . Also reset the side adjustments to horizontal mounting of the unit and installed it this way instead of vertically to allow gravity to do it s work in assisting loading the discs. All is good so far as it seemed to be a mechanical / lubrication issue . I intend on getting some silicone grease from Jaycar or the likes , get a cotton bud , and re do where i see old grease marks on pivots . My observations lead me to believe this unit would definately work better and have a longer life if mounted horizontally in the first place.Hope this helps someone out there. My unit is a 10 cd stacker in a WH Caprice.:smilesandbanana:

A couple of sheet metal brackets mounted to the underside of the parcel shelf next to the sat nav cd unit.I m new to this forum thingy so pics might take some time. You could also maybe re use the existing side OEM vertical mount bracket with minor stuffing around but i chose to leave mine there and honestly didn t even try that.:goodjob:
