Hi there all the ACT'ers and surrounds,

I am after a nice cruise route around Canberra. I used to live there but my memory is fading me....I am looking at Tidbinbilla, Cotter, Urriara, Coppins Crossing type route with no dirt roads.

Thanks in advance

Finney

You pretty much hit the nail on the head yourself!

Do you want to start or end with a BBQ? Cause around the lake there are a lot of good places for that. Plus you could start your cruise with some sites around town...

Thanks in advance

Finney

So is the route I listed now all bitumen? Some used to be dirt?

Thanks again

I've been talking about it for a couple of years but MAYBE next year we can all go for a nice cruise through the hills....the Snowy ones. 650km return.

No dirt on the roads you mentions... Some pot holes but nothing major.

I'd be keen for a cruise :D

the roads you mention are fantastic - the absence of cops on these roads make it more interesting - having said that, given the nature of the roads, ridiculous speeds are not really an option.

agreed - have done this several times by myself in the last few months - still need to be wary of cold weather and ice though.

Unfortunately the fires a few teas ago turned a once Stunning senery into what is now more like a Lunar landscap, and while on the subject of lunar stuff the Tacking station has a musium and a cafe, if you can time your visit for when they reposition that Huge Dish it makes for a well worth it visit.

Tidbinbilla was also devistated but I'm sure things are better there now and you can do the entire loop without even getting out of your car.

There's nothin like scraping the pegs at 140 but thats another story for another forum

The Bikes mainly like to begin from the cotter end, just a thought.

Anyone interested in doing both?

I've heard of the Snowy trip before ( When I only had 2 wheels)
but you pretty much have to drive all day if you want to do it in one day

If there is somewhere good to stay overnight you could even make it a weekend trip, go down the back of the Snowy into Victoria and back up along the Murray, or Have I just added a third cruise to this thread?

Oh Yeah ! And I'm up for drags too ...

Us Canberran's have never been able to organise a cruise... I dont think we are getting any closer this time either... LOL

Route for my 650km is Canberra-Cooma-Jindabyne-Thredbo-Khancoban-Cabramurra-Adaminaby-Cooma-Canberra

Mick

I did this exact trip a few weeks after getting the SS...maybe I wasn't used to the car yet and didn't have a feel for it so I was slow, but I didn't enjoy it much between Thredbo and Adaminaby. Roads seemed too narrow, corners too blind, too much stuff coming the other way, and couldn't go quick enough.

I might need to try it again now that I'm used to the VE though, I may have just been adjusting to the bigger size and reduced visibility.

Marco, I'd say you were probably expecting something different also,
and thats why you were disappointed, now you've seen the road and your still prepared to give it another go, Say's a lot.

on another topic now,

I'm flying down to Melbourne for the test & tune on the 22nd(Drag Racing that is)and to pick up my new ride, anyone who wants to go is welcome to come along,
It will cost around $250 for Airfare and $100 for 3 nights accommodation,
I think thats pretty hard to beat, I'll be leaving the car in Melbourne and flying home on Monday.

PM me for more details if interested.

OK, now us Canberran's can say we have organized something.

hahah you's know what we are shockers at organising, as there is only a few people actually into this thread, we need something that will grab attention and make people wanna go, not wanna make excuses like......
GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS, DRESSED SEXUALLY + GROG

ok so what you see is what you get, pj's at tuggeranong does exactly that on a thurs night, its where the girls behind the bar dress in what ever looks good and skanky haha, so what we need is to organise something that gets attention like that and just make a date and hope fellow locals help out with the turnout

I would be keen to partake in a cruise around the Canberra region. I am not so keen on a 650k round trip though.

One of the guys I work with he and his son ride some pretty high powered road bikes and head out to the brindabella mountain - to the north west just before you get to the cotter (all sealed roads only). They say it is an awesome run and takes them about half a day by the time they get home.

It might be easier to organise a short run first up to get the interest going, then move on to larger ones later (also petrol prices are a bit exy).

I personaly would rather something local due to family commitments..

I am away from 14 - 28 July 08. So hopefully something might happen before then or after.. :)

Just my opinion.. happy to go with the flow if I can..

Cheers
Phil

OK, How's this sound?
Start some where in North Canberra and head out to the Cotter
Then Paddy's River rd to the Tidbinbila Tracking station
Checkout the museum and have lunch at the café there
If I can I'll get the times for moving the Dish so we can see that
Then on up to Tidbinbila itself, here I would recommend we leave some car's in the car park and fill fewer car's for the lap round the park
Don't want to freak out all the animals
And then back along Point Hut rd into Canberra

This trip at most would take only 2.5 / 3 hours

I'd like to do a lap around the Uriara rd but this means
Doing the Cotter rd twice
It does have an Awsome twisty section followed by a
Long long flat straight

If there's any takers, some could do the Uriara lap earlyer then meet up with the main group at the Cotter, or something .
