Hi all,
Can anyone steer me in the direction of what type of MP3 players people are plugging into their SSV stereo's and the jack type and where you get them?
Thanks

Any MP3 player should work, just duck into the nearest Dick Smith outlet and they will have the correct cable to suit most MP3 players.

Yes you can but only 99 songs, any more and it wont read. Ive found this in both stereo setups in a ss and calais v which has the premium stereo the same as an ssv. it sux as you can usually fit between 130-200 songs on a cd depending on how long the tracks are.

I'm not 100% sure but I think you can have more songs, they just need to be in folders...thats' how it worked for my old alpine unit, approx 99 songs per folder.

It works in my SSV over 99, I've got one in now that has 171 with no issues at all. They are all in one folder too.

Yep I can conform that as well...I have 3 folders on one CD in my SSV. The first folder contains 141 songs and they're all selectable.
I kind wish they'd included a USB slot as well. That way, you can just push in an 8gb flashdrive and let head unit take it from there. Oh well.

Well in a calais v with 6 burnt mp3's with approx 150 songs on each in a single folder it will not play anymore than 99. it will show the information of the tracks but no audio can be heard, its the exact same case in my ss. my mp3 cd's were burnt using itunes also.

Maybe your system is broken, or it could be a difference between the the Calais and the SSV?

It might be a different firmware version.
Just slightly off topic, but has anyone noticed a difference in audio quality between an Ipod connected via Aux and an MP3 cd playing the same song. After trying this in dads Senator I swear the Ipod is poorer quality.

An iPod plugged into the audio jack is an analogue interface. That is the headunit input is simply taking the headphone output of the MP3 player amplifies it, and then played through the speakers. Depending on the quality of the MP3 player there is a loss in quality. The MP3s on a CD are in digital format. The system converts the digital format from the original MP3 track to an analogue signal and then sends it via the system's ampliers to the speakers. There is no loss in quality. (other than the system's limitations).

Does anyone know if WMA files are also compatible with the head unit or only MP3's?

Only mp3s. I tried a wide range of formats and mp3 & mp3 pro were the only 2 that worked.

Broken what a crock of shit:rofl:. My dads calais V 10/06 i beleive. it has the same head unit installed as the ssv. My ss not ssv is an 07/07 build 08 model and it does the exact same thing when it gets to 100 or more songs, it displays the info but doesnt play the music. ive used different cd's different songs but only the same burning device. previous cd's that i burnt that played fully over the 100 song mark in our old xc barina dont work either in either of these cars. Its most likley a software issue as others have not had the problem but our 2 cars are not the only ones i know about others aswell. if it was a software issue its pretty stange its the same on two different cars built a year apart and running different stereo's.
