Yay, I want a CTS Sports Edition.

Cadillac might do OK as a niche car but I dont think it will dent the euros dominance in this country. Not enough brand recognition or style. Time will tell I guess. They dont have anything in their lineup that excites me.

Not too shabby!
Already drives blogs are bashing it too.

But then again drive is pretty lame. :p

They've never been successful/competitive outside of the US. I'm betting the majority of buyers will be those who love American MTV and all that goes with it, but know bugger all about cars.

Apparently it has a 225 kw direct injection version of the current VE V6 engine. Selling at $31000 AUD equivalent in the USA.

Was in the December wheels mag.

Looks Ok.

The drive article was claiming the CTS would sell at the $70-80K mark  even though it sells in the US for $32,990(USD)!
Im sure Cadillac handed over a large brown paper full of $100 bills to Motor Trend to get this award.

EDIT - A CTS-V wouldnt be a bad proposition though :)

HUGE profit margin on those cars for Holden. Makes up for the loss on the Commy to the US I guess.

The CTS is supposed to be pretty good, so it will be interestingto see how it goes down here.

I hope it doesn't delay that Direct Injection V6 going into our SV6 & Calais.

(looks okay / I'd have to see one for real though)

What is this crap???

We already have the brilliant, good looking and Australian designed & made Calais-V and Caprice! Why bother with this sack of ugly?

I say bring the 'Vette on, or fast-track the camaro. I'd buy either.

i was reading that article, what options do they have in the V8? do they offer the 6.0L?

If i had the funds i would buy a v8 caddy just for the name :P

The car pictured isn't the one you're getting.

http://www.cadillac.com/cts

The redesigned CTS that just debuted here is engineered for right-hand drive and going global. It's a nice car but with the Calais, Caprice and Statesman it isn't needed and may only serve to cannabalize Holden more than anything else.

What Holden should really be importing is the Chevrolet Corvette but the current model isn't engineered for right-hook markets.

They should bring back the "1959 body shape" with some new running gear:bow:

Then i might get excited:smilesandbanana:

Looks suspiciously like it's built on the Zeta platform... So not only are GM making unbelievable profit from overpricing it to buggery, it's actually BASED on a platform entirely designed and engineered in Australia for VE.

I do like the sound of a 226kw 3.6 litre direct injection V6. Couple it with a better auto than the 5 slasher though. And can ANYONE tell me why Holden are still putting the 4 dinosaurs in cars? Is it because some warehouse somewhere has them piled to the roof?

Big_Valven
04-12-2007, 06:57 PM
Nope... it's not based on the zeta platform.

I can't decide which is uglier - STS or CTS.

Holden will definately cannibalise its sales - BMW, Merc and Audi have nothing to worry about.

And what styling approach is being taken by the CTS? Its not euro thats certain. It seems to be pure american styling, but that would suggest that american styling is bad and thats not true - Corvette, Camaro, 300C, even the mustang etc all prove american styling can be brilliant. So I think this is just BAD american styling.

And the 'lade ?

Holden needs product that's not going to steal sales from it's own stable, the Corvette and Escalade have no current Holden competitors.

Geez Holden make dumb decisions sometimes

crYnOid

You sure? Looks like it...

The CTS is based on the Sigma platform which had been around for years before the VE came out. Sigma is GMs "Premium" RWD platform. Zeta (VE) is GMs "Volume" RWD platform.

I don't see this working. Styling is odd (to say the least) At $70k~$80k they arent going to cannabalise too many holden sales. Not when we could have a Caprice or Grange for similar money. I really wonder where the sales are supposed to come from. The local Euro badge brigade just arent going to buy it. As someone else put it.. "the answer to a question nobody (in australia) asked: cadillac"

I wonder if this will delay the introduction of direct injection to the Commodore.

Holden may want the Cadillac to have the premium engine for marketing purposes.

Lets hope not as the Commodore desperately needs this engine.

As other have said, its not based on Zeta, rather Zeta is based on Sigma, just a cheaper version.
And this Cadillac platform has been around alot longer than any VE.

And just personaly, i like this new CTS, and think its a sharper and more modern design than VE, which ive never been a big fan of.
Having said that, i dont think it will sell in any great numbers here unfortunately.

Perhaps the big difference in opinion is that here in the states we have been suffering thru a low power, front wheel drive epidemic for about 25 years, and any time there is a rear wheel drive "domestic" car for us we get excited, and the looks you haven't really been exposed to, whereas over here, it's grown and evolved.

Kind of like how My GTO (Monaro) is considered utter rubbish here in the states, due to it's looks.

Fair call,I know u guys have been waiting for RWD,where over here we just have them! But to me that is just to square in the frt & back, tone it down a bit and it maybe ok.
Oh yes the GTO frt wrecks the Monaro.

I just registered on the Caddy Oz website.

I also did this when Holden were launching the new Ute, and ended up getting 2 "free" Sydney motor show tickets out of it.

Seeing as they will launch the Caddy at next years Sydney motor show in October, maybe they might do the same ? ;)

Doesn't cost anything to register........

I wouldn't call Cadillac's "ugly" but they do tend to blend in with all the other cars on the road a bit too much, they should do what Chrysler did with the 300 and make it have some real presence on the road. Make the interior really stand out too, but not in a pimp way.

Why would I waste good money on this thing when I could have a 307kw Grange!?!? Or a Senator...or a GTS!?!?

If I want an expensive import I'll buy a 335i BMW coupe.

That I disagree with. I like the GTO front. I like the HSV/VxR front much better, but that GTO front I'm OK with. If you asked me back in 2002 if I'd ever own a Pontiac GTO I'd laugh at you. It's an icon, a legend, just like the Monaro. I didn't like it as much in '04, but i loved it in 05+ when it gained more power, better brakes, etc. Finally a reason to get it. It looked too much like my current Pontiac Grand Prix, just a slight evolution I guess, but finally when it had more power, i finally had to do it. As it was my Grand Prix was faster than an '04 GTO and could edge '05's. It was a front drive, 3800 Supercharged powered car. Headers, Cam, good flowing exhaust, and a small pulley on the SC, along with tuning, boosted it well into the 300-350hp range, and it was lighter.

Why doesn't GM give Holden the Vette to sell over here? I would much rather that.

Apparently they are supposed to be doing so. I originally heard about Caddy 3-4 years ago and now that has happened. This is the start of more to come believe me.
There are a few R/H converted Vettes in NZ

No vettes as they are LHD only from the factory. RHD should come with the next gen vette.

Ford Australia managed to bring over the mustang and do the RHD conversions here in small volume. Holden cold do the same with the Corvette until the RHD C7 arrives, rather than waste everyone's time with this Cadillac rubbish. Anyone seen the rest of the Cadillac range? Its terrible.:spew:

The Vectra (and Saab 9-3) are built on the FWD Epsilon platform, and bears no resemblance to the RWD/AWD Sigma platform that the CTS is built on.
The smaller Cadillac BLS is based on the Saab 9-3, and built by Saab in Sweden.

The front isn't too bad, but the rear is hideous. Overall a pretty shabby looking car i'd say. Luxury? Give me a Grange any day.
