Hi,
Cars are becoming increasingly powerful and faster. The problem is what happens when these high powered cars get older, people upgrade and these high powered cars get in the hands of young inexperienced people. These are death traps.
Even now, VN-VT 5 Ltr commodore has some decent power. Some young inexperienced driver forks out a couple $$ and gets his bum in the drivers seat. So dangerous. Imagine when the LS1's become so affordable every crazy guy can afford one?
Our roads are going to be carnage galore. Yes there are some restirctions on P-Platers but nowadays even the V6's these days have decent punch. the current E series HSV are being bought by older guys but what when they upgrade, when these cars become a little older (and unsafer) and then get into the hands of a young inexperienced drivers.

come on mate its always been this way, its just the cars used to be smaller...
the they all weight heaps
there is nothing wrong with a high powered car, more often drivers get into trouble in underpowered cars trying to make them perform like a car with a bit of go
i think if you learn with a car with a bit of go you can handle all situations
well that just my opinion
this seems as rediculous as not letting P platers drive at 100kmh

You can't generalise every P Plater by saying cars are too powerful for P Platers.
My brother had a vt 5L manual on his P's and whilst his mates were busy crashing into fences or drag racing he's kept out of trouble. So don't generalise the topic buddy.

XR6T I do resent that comment, I own and drive a ''powerful'' vehicle, and am on the last strands of my P plates and not once have been 'done' for anything driving or speeding related, I believe strongly that it's not the vehicle it's the driver.
Any driver in a motor vehicle is in control of a 1-2 ton missile, you can't chuck every p-plater in your basket.

this is a very serious topic. something has to be done or your son on his p's will be flying around in some 350kw rocket which will be just a standard v6 at that time.

Okay, XRGT please go seek medical help for your inability to have a social skill that 98% of the population gets from birth!!!! :)
That better andy?
Okay on a serouis not to your post XR6T, ever tried walking across the road? ever riden a motor bike, ever been ski diving, ever been swimming in the surf and knowon how close you have swam to something that can eat you???
My point is we are so worried about people getting killed and this is dangerous in these people hands and so on. We forget that we are born and we die, Yep you are going to die one day. be it by a p plater with a 400rwkw Gen TT (hmmm they only make 350 odd) or a shark as you are swimming or like my Grandad (RIP Grandad picked up a cup of tea for smokko on fraser and never made it to the front deck he died instantly) You could get struck by lightning in the next thunderstorm. The world is tied up in how to live longer and not let anyone Die yet it is natural thing and no one can tell you the exzact second you will take your last breath and what from you will die.
Hence this tyoe if thread gets under my skin...
Oppologiese for the original sarcasim posts

Arnt laws comming to stop p platers getting turbo's or V8's? Isnt this already the case in Vic?
What they have to do is teach people how to drive properly, and, what really happens when it all goes wrong...

it has very little to do with the car..its all up to the driver.
there are d1ckheads in all ages and cant be put as just p platers
no matter what car it is you can still do stupid things in something with little power...

I suppose that is a good thing it won't corrupt some poor kids mind into bying a ford.....
And best you burn it instead of selling it because a week later the guy or girl you sell it to may very well on sell it to a p plater and they may then accedently run you over...
So some petrol and a match is the best way to dispose of your Ford mate...

My threads are absolutely spot on. Judging by the immature responses of many on here, I reckon many of you are not responsible on the road. Stick you fingers up at every second person, like animals.
I wouldnt sell you my XR6T as I dont want it damaged and secondly because you will hurt yourself in it.
Car makers out there should program the cars so that after 80,000km, cut the torque out of them so when the younger people get them, they cant do anything silly.

For crying out loud, can we leave the youngsters alone for 5 seconds PLEASE!
I have really had it with this stupid "if you're young and in a car you will die" rubbish! Plain and simply enough!
I don't care who started the thread, or what ANY of you think about this topic anymore. To all the members who think because their first car was a Datsun 180B sh*tbox and they have been driving for twentyhundred years they know best for anyone younger than them, for chrissakes back off! Young people need to be able to make their own decisions or they will never get to the self-righteous "I know best" stage many people get later in their lives!
You know what I'll do? I'll ignore all you pessimists, drive properly, keep all my points, build my experience, JUST LIKE I AM NOW and then I shall laugh in the faces of all the naysayers, nannies, and self-righteous preachers who think I can't make my own decisions, carry one iota of maturity, or make any correct judgment while on the roads. I shall laugh until my sides hurt.
*RANT OVER*
