Well there have been some some sucessful threads of late in relation to OTR's, Lights and other gizmos so how about we have one on diff gears and or converters. Now me not being very clued on to where to get these and the best prices maybe someone can help out with the process (hopefully funky munky reads this as it seems he is good with these group buy things).
So basically it's for BOTH of the above or EITHER of these.
Now I know it's close to Christmas but still when it's putting money towards mods i'm sure we'll all be able to find the $$$ somewhere.
We need to source a place and prices to get this rolling, hopefully one of the forum sponsors can supply the parts:D
So lets start this off .... I have included model car as I have been told some cars are able to get certain ratios others aren't (please correct me if i'm wrong).

SBBear, there was a group buy for Kaaz diffs and gears last year, so it may be prudent to try and look that one up to get an idea of who/how and why.
Sadly, diff gears and stally are not required here.
I'd be keen to look at the upcoming Harrop/Eaton Truetrac diffs and the possibility of negotiating a group buy when they come out.
Good luck with it.
Cheers,
Macca

Thanks for that macca, so hopefully if we can do this right we should manage to get a good group buy up and running like the previous one which appeared to have been a winner >>> http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=50634&highlight=group+buy+diff
Although I still need to work out something for the converters which I will look into more.
If anyone has any more suggestions please let me know.
I'll be contacting some of the sponsors today
cheers - Matt

I have been speaking to one of the sponsors .... and here is what we have come up with so far ....
Diffs : Kaaz Diff's, 3.73-4.11 diff's,
Converters : Dominator stally's
Prices still to be confirmed but will be discounted, the more to get in the cheaper this will be hopefully :D
If anyone has a specific "brand" they require please let me know I will see what can be done
cheers - matt
Update ....... Please note this is a guide only and final figures may differ depending on how many people go through with the gb. Hopefully we can get heaps of interest as the more that get onboard the cheaper this should be.
3.46&3.73's $650
3.91's $750
4.11's $700
Bearing Kit $140
LSD shims $5ea
Kaaz center and oil included $1400
Friction Modifier for standard LSD type $20
High stall eg 3000rpm with lock up convertor $1050
Freight normally $20-$25 depending on item, and state, also insurance optional extra as well.
p.s this convertors on this update are not DOMINATOR but if interested these can be ordered.
At the end of this gb all items must be paid for prior to shipping therefore the sponsors that help out with this don't get screwed over buy some that may drop out as less people means the prices may differ.

Are they gonna be exchange centres for the diffs or do you still have to stuff around trying to find someone locally to set them up?

I will try and get answers asap.
Tommy thats fine with the converter if you want in. 6lclub the diffs would need to be built locally with all parts available to purchase. Although if you'd like to exchange diffs i'm sure something could be worked out :D
Hope that helps

Is complete exchange possable as i live in darwin so i can't really drop my car off and i understand they may want cash deposit as insurance, so that i send my diff after i get the new 1 and also what brand of converter is it.

I hope I'm not going to totally rain on the parade here, but aren't any of you concerned that adding low ratio diffs and high stalls is going to make your car awsome for the quater mile, but crap for day to day driving, or just cruising around?
I may be mistaken, but won't a 3 grand stall convector not lock up until you're going over 3 grand, which makes the car drive like crap when you're cruising around at low rpm?
Oh, and if you're chasing the really high numbers on the dyno, a low ratio diff will cost you more power at the wheels than a high ratio because you're wasting energy making the tailshaft and engine spin faster for the same rpm at the wheels... although if you're chasing the low numbers down the quater mile then you probably want the lowest ratio you can go as long as you don't hit rev-limiter at your 1:1 gear before the end of the track.

I think everyone here knows the pros and cons... as for diff gears they really dont have any cons besides long long drives, but even then in a m6 its barely noticable.
Cant talk on stalls as im not too savy with them, but my understanding is that if its a lockup converter it will "lock up" at any given rpm in top gear when cruising, even if its below the stall speed.

You need to drive more modded cars. I can tell you havnt driven a car with a stally before. A nice 3000rpm stally makes a street car smoother and nicer to drive. Your STOCK holden has a stall of around 1800rpm. Does that mean it doesnt work till 1800... nope.
Diff gears are the same, makes the car awesome on the street and regardless of track work, id do them anyway.

3K converter can be set to lock at 70KPH.....I have one now in a VY Calais, complusary mod if your chasing a smoother and safer ride imo...

If you think i've never been in car with a high stall before then you're not quite as intuitive as you might like to think. My mate had a VL with a chip, cam, exhaust and highstall. It cruised like crap under 3 grand and was unresponsive because when you jabbed the accelerator, it slipped rather than locking up and sending all the power to the wheels. He couldn't climb steep hills properly at about 110km/h because it was below 3G in Drive and above red line in Second.
Oh, and in case you haven't noticed, the additional acceleration from a low ratio diff also tranlates into a much jerkier ride, particularly if you've modded the trans and stall converter... Great for the track, but crap for day to day driving.
As MarkOne mentioned, given the advanced engine management system of the LS1 maybe it can be programmed to avoid the problems with locking up at under 3 grand?
