I just did a search but was surprised with lack of threads on running in a new LS2 , there was a link to some motorbike guru who says go and flog it but not sure if this is the best way. I want to try and give this motor the best run in possible for a good life and good power can anyone comment please on best procedures.

Thanks Daz

daz i did the same run in procedure for the SSV as i did for the jetski (4stroke too) and both have run good.

first of all the key is to make sure the car warms up to operating temp.
then nice solid accelerating.
for the first 500km i didnt rev at more than 3000rpm.
then from 500km-1000km i brought it up to 4500rpm shifts
then after 1000km straight to limiter :D

at 2000km i changed the oil to Penrite HPR10 Semi Synthetic

the key is not to baby it but at the same time not to flog the shit out of it.
never let it sit at particular revs for long and avoid using cruise control.
make sure u are using ALL of the rev range every now and then too.
dont labour the engine by sitting on 100km in 6th...use 5th and let it rev that bit higher.

what i also did was take the car when it was between the 500-1000km mark up to mundaring weir and gidgigannup in the long twisty up and down hills to make it work hard...and it was fun too :driving: :D

take the kids and mrs to mandurah have some lunch and walk around then come back...that should do the 250km in the one day :D

what i have said isnt proven to be the right or the wrong way but its what i did and what i found many did.
its also the most sensible.

some ppl like drew  just pull out the dealer smoking the rears up....i just couldnt do it...i couldnt bring myself to do it

Cam only I just built ....... at around 300km ( not easy km's ) on the dyno for some 28 odd runs ....... at around 900 km's firts meet = 2 days 20 or more runs . Is now ready to be given a hard time

My dealer told me to run it right through the rev range for the first 300 or so k's. Just no sharp stabs of the pedal or bouncing the limiter. Go nuts after that they said.
Engines these days a pretty well built and if thrashed from day one would probly last just as long as one thats been babied on run in.

Cam only L98.....Started for the 1st time and reversed onto the rollers....Three dynos pulls for a final adjustment to tune and all is well at 326rwkw on two consecutive runs..another 500ks odd at varying Highway speeds then the One pass at Willowbank..and out ( cage time ) :bawl:
Back to the freeway , 1000Ks logged and time for the good oil....Castrol 10/60....another 500Ks an we'll head back too see what the Dyno has to offer this time around :)

Excellent response there EXCESSV!! You have to find a median as you can't baby them and at the same time you can't thrash 'em either!! A little like a woman, you gotta know when and how to drive them! No offence to the ladies out there :)

L76 crate engine with cam only, plus usual bits to make it work in older LS1 car was put straight onto dyno for tuning.
After a warmup period, checked for leaks then a couple of runs upto 6000rpm.
Initial tune results 306rwkw.
Reputable engine builder recons running in not that important for modern engines, just drive it how you would normally.
Within reason, like dont labour it at low revs in 6th, or bounce off the limiter in every gear.
The most important thing is the oil and filter change at 1000k, then off to the motorplex!

Scotty the womaniser.

Daz, A run in procedure varies from every second person. Just make sure you change the oil at 1000km.

Late model cars are pretty decent these days so don't be scared to give it a bit, use common sense though and don't bounce off the limiter, load it up different gears at varying speeds, ours has 1000 km on it now, we picked it up in Perth and drove straight home to Kal, once past the lakes it was 110-160 on the back roads varying between 4th & 6th with auto, first totally stock run at 665km on the clock on the dyno was 326.6 hp (243.5 kw) in 4th.

What better place to run your car in than a race track

They need to be ran in HARD, they love it, I haven't had a single problem in over 7 years of driving these cars hard
