the most time consuming thing is getting the old ones off..

they can be a pain in the arse sometimes..

i did mine a few months back, and as Grommz said the longest part is getting the old stuff off. Other than that it doesnt take long and looks/performs alot better. DO IT imo...

im doing em now, got the lot front and rear and new pads all round,

now what do you think.....

paint the calipers red and paint the caliper bracket black

or

paint the whole caliper and bracket red

or

leave it and stop being a dick??

with the risk of being a dick cause you were there and could of done it??

hard one to pick??

If you have the paint do it, it should be dry enough to put them back on the car later this arvo, after a few drinks, but not too many that you stuff up.

Welcome too my life.....I want to kill myself!

It has teken me nearly all day to do F&R rotors and pads and getting them painted,

have just taken it for a ride to bed the brakes in and now I have PROBLEMS!

1.

when I was taking the front tyres off I noticed the previous owner had flat washers with spring washes ion the studs behind the wheel, I thought this was odd but then thought....hmmm maybe there there to space the wheel out a bit due to it being lowered???, but they are standard wheels, but I thought they where there before I will put them back but now I have massive vibrations WTF is going on??

2. I have developed this chirping noise that was there before I did the brakes but now it is louder?? it does not sound like brakes, more like the belt chirping?? am I going nuts?? i have sprayed it with silicon, still the same?

3.

the pedal feels so soft and spongy and there is brake fluid leaking form the reservoir but I know what that would be from, when I first got the car I toped all the fluids inc the brake fluid but I think now with the new pads and rotors the pistons arnt squezzing as much so it dosnt need as much fluid, I will get the system blead tomorow.

the only positive today has brought is the brakes look awsome and really finishes off the car if I can send anyone the pics so I can put them up it would be cool!!

thank-you all for reading my really long post

Why would you paint them red, unless theyre HSV ones. Dont make them look like something theyre not. Go for black if you cant afford the bling bling ones.

when I was taking the front tyres off I noticed the previous owner had flat washers with spring washes ion the studs behind the wheel.

Any sort of washer in between the wheel and brake rotor would be very odd , the wheel locates on the centre of the wheel and if it's spaced off far enough it won't engage . Try a wheel with the washers off to see how it fits and if there are any problems .

Can you post any pictures of the washers you are talking about ?

here are a few pics, but the washers are just that flat and round with a spring washer, why would it need them at the front for??

if any one know what that chirp sound is pls let me know, my vt is doing the same thing it must be a comon fault??

The washers have probably just been used to space the wheel out so it sits level with the guard . You used to be able to get spacers for that sort of thing but i am not sure that they are legal .

Maybe it was fitted with tyres larger than the original 235/45/17's and they rubbed on the front strut so they moved the wheel outwards to gain clearance, sounds like a dodgy idea, I wouldn't be happy running washers behind the wheels good chance the wheel would not be seated correctly, I would remove them and see if there were any clearance issues. It hasn't had a bingle and something is bent and they have tried to gain clearance with the washers?

MMM sounds like you are on the money Drewie, my thoughts exactly, im getting vibration though the wheel harder than a jack hammer! the tyres are 245/45/17s so do you think they put them there due to the size rubing on the struts??

would 245s rub? anyone out there know??

Mungrel

I ran 245s on my SS 17" rims (same as yours) no problems.
Now running 245s on my 19s and they rub a little, front and rear.
Nothing to worry about though.

Ok a bit of an update

got 5mm wheel spacers today and had them fitted and the brakes blead, all is good, no vibrations brakes stop on a dime...

but there was still that chirping sound, so I have the top pully replaced and a new belt fitted, the mechanic took it for a drive, still the same and it did;nt sound like brakes, upon furth inspection we saw this!!

the top bolt to the powersteering pump had snaped!! WTF??

how could this happen?? has this happened to anyone else??

On Fridiay it will be getting fixed, the bolts are only $4 from holden, but it makes you wonder if I had of just not worried about the sound and kept driving! what could have happend?

peace out
