Question from a newbie, my new 19km, SSV not only had the nice new car smell inside it has a not so nice, burnt sort of smell as if some sort of protective coating or something is burning off the exhaust ? Is this normal? or should I be contacting Holden?

a brand new car, will definately have this. I used to work for a Chrysler dealership, and all the new vehicles were like this. They seemed extra liberal in whatever crap they sprayed on them in the minivans it seemed, and the trucks were pretty bad too, but the midsize 300's weren't like this at all. You should be fine. Go hammer on the car for a day and see if it goes away.

yeah its normal mate.
same with my SSV.
just things wearing in, heating up, burning stuff off mechanical parts with heat, clutch, etc...its all normal
Perfectly normal dude.
If you ever get a set of Pacemaker headers you'll really know about bad smells as their protective coating burns off! lol
The exhaust guys didn't burn it off at all and was sitting at the lights on the way home with my windows down. Some dude yelled at me "hey buddy I think your cars on fire". I just replied "she's a Holden mate - she's always on fire" and took off laughing. About 2 weeks later the smell was totally gone.
When it was brand new, was about the same time for the factory exhaust smell to completely disappear. Of course, depends on how much driving you do.

They often leave stickers on the exhaust as well.

Abit off topic,
Is there such a product that brings back a new car smell,or smells like a new car after spraying?

There is a car deoderiser called "new Car" but it doesn't quite get there. You could have the whole interior re-upholstered:p

Get some Zaino Z10 - lovely leather smell! :)
If I give my car a serious hiding even now it still smells a bit, and it's done 6500km! Not as bad as when brand new though, but yeah it's normal, all your gaskets seating and mounts, rubbers, bedding in, etc.

I'm pretty sure the new car smell is the glue/adhesive they use to stick the windscreen / cockpit on.
I hate the new car smell lol, bloody horrible!

Quote from the movie Christine..
"She had the smell of a brand-new car. That's just about the finest smell in the world, 'cept maybe for pussy. ..."

How ironic, I watched that movie last week, found it in the $5 DVD bin!

New car smell is said to be carcinogenic. Something about the vapour given off by the new fabric, leather and plastics is not supposed to be good for you...:bawl:
But do I care??? Absolutely not. :flipoff: Give me new car smell anyday:bow:
