I've had my SS for a couple of weeks and finally the sticker next to the fuel cap got my interest as it says the car is suitable for using ethanol (E10) fuel.

The only reason it caught my attention (and I'm just zipping up my public flaming suit as I type this) is that I'd asked the dealership I bought the car from if it could be converted to LPG. The main reason being a mate who has a VE Berlina has it on gas and you cannot notice any difference in power due to the gas being direct injected. Holdens answer was no, the engine wasn't designed for LPG which I think meant if you want to put a 6L V8 on gas then you like driving their car less than being on a float in mardi gras:)

LPG is now out of the equation, but my background is high powered motorcycles and the concept of ethanol through an engine is using logic of buying 5 tanks of fuel just to ruin an engine.

As QLD is pretty much the only State that's adding ethanol to petrol at the moment, what are the views of people who have used that fuel type and have you had any problems with it?

Plenty of Ethanol in fuel here in NSW you can take your pick. 95 ron + 10% Ethanol for 98 Boost from United or E10 which is ulp with 10% Ethanol or V Power Racing 100 octane which is 98 with 5% Ethanol. It's the same deal in Victoria I believe and some of Qld.

These are designed to safely use 10% ethanol. That's why the sticker is on the car.
Problems occured when dodgy stations were blending higher percentages of ethanol, and it was being used in cars not designed for it.
The Commodores sent to Brazil, for example, have their fuel systems modified further to allow very high ethanol ratios.

I stay well away from ethanol, I don't even park near the bouser (spelling?) so that my car can't even smell it

Seriously though, I remember when they said "Stay away from ethanol, it ruins your car and voids your warranty" then all of a sudden 12 months down the track they're goin "Ethanol is the way to go!"

Better the devil you know I reckon, Optimax or Ultimate for me any day.
