Well i love the look of the new Walkinshaw bonnet i dunno about anyone else but i think it looks tough as hell.

So i just rang Walkinshaw down in braeside to get a price and was told.

$1540 in prime
$1690 painted to suit with 8 day turn around and fitment.

I was like  $150 to paint it is that all youd have to be bloody mad to order one of these things in just primer honestly..

He said theyd had quiet alot ordered in primer simply because people didnt like to wait the 8 days to get them.

Looks like im adding something else to my shopping list.. :woot:

ask them if they still fill up with water, as the sound of sloshing water when you open and close your bonnet is fxcked

Will that include the track stripes seeing as your ss has them?

$150 for painting is a bargain. Panel shops often charge $300 to fix blemishes (which all things like this have at least one or two) and paint a panel.

Dont do it James they are shocking bonnets!!!

And its the big buldge that fills with water...

And yeah whats the deal with track stripes, they would look shocking over the Walky bonnet because the lines wouldnt match, so the stripes would be up the side, bit on the bonnet, bit on the top of the buldge, hard to explain but would be terrible.

What they are doing is charging people for 1/2 the paint job in the first quote.
The more people that don't take it up, the better. Those who do, think they are getting a 'bargain', but that's because it's already 1/2 built into the primer price.

An old retail trick that one fellas.

Perhaps, but if someone buys "just" the primed version, and takes it to a panel shop, they will pay the extra, so yes, they do actually "save" money this way over the alternative.
It's the sort of item people either "love", or "loathe" anyway! If someone that "loves" it can "save" $150, they might as well...:deal:

And based on $150, who would take it to a panel shop ? Not me.

It's done deliberately.......

It's all part of business.
Who on here really believes their 4 cents per litre discount off petrol from Coles or Woolworths/Safeway is really free?
Nup. It's part of the shelf price, and they are doing VERY nicely from it, thank you very much.

The walky bonnets aren't the best looking things but when i saw one in the flesh did appear to be ok.

From memory the certain 'blownv8' had to modify it a little (cant remember exactly what for) but he made a plastic sheet, maybe had something to do with airflow.

I didnt need to cut the bonnet but wanted to for the reverse air flow scoop.Lets the hot engine bay air out. I made up a pespex cover for under the bonnet to look nice & clean. It also lets the water run out behind the front bar instead of on the belts under the bonnet.

So your Walky bonnet thingy actually works as a proper scoop?

How have you modified the bonnet and scoop to get it all to work? Its just that the scoop standard is just there for cosmetic purposes and the bonnet is not cut at all as far as I know.

It would be great if you could post some pics in this thread for everyone to have a look at because if there was a way to make these things functional alot more people might be tempted to fit them.

Cheers

??????????

That's a trick we haven't heard about

The only reason I supply primed parts is that there is too much risk of damage in transportation around the country and overseas.

Painted parts are for local fit in our workshop only..

Dont do it mate. They are farken ugly in real life as they are in the photos we see on here.

I've only seen one decent example and it was a black painted one on a black SS-V. Looked ok but i would have saved my money for some go faster modds.

Just my 2c mate.

I have cut the bonnet along the line that the front of the scoop takes a v & pushed the flap down & welded a small brace in the middle for support. as soon as i get a camera i will post up some pics. I have no problem with holding water as the cut in the bonnet lets the water run out onto the perspex plate under the bonnet.
