A friend of mine owns a 2006 Astra. She was finding that there was a rubbing sound and a vibrating sound when driving the car. She took it into Holden to have it looked at under waranty. They discovered that it was a cracked engine mount and replaced it under waranty. Does anyone know if this is a common problem with these cars? and has anyone had it happen to them?
The other problem she is having is the engine is ticking. When she advised holden of this, they told her that this was a common thing in the Astra and not to worry about it. The car has only done 30k since new and has always been seviced regularly. Any answers on what it could be would be apreciated.

Yeah, I've seen a few rear mounts lose their centre bolt allowing the engine and trans to tilt forwards when its loaded up. The alloy mount breaks after a while if left unchecked. Otherwise a new bolt and nut fitted with threadlock is all that is needed normally.

But as for the ticking noise, well it could the decoupler pulley on the alternator or a noisy timing gear pulley or tensioner. Take the thing back and get them to have another look.
