VZSS 6 LITRE
12 Month old car 40000kms ,had the steering rack replaced twice (and still have a shudder in the front) NOW we took the car for a service and was informed that it has a oil leak which is coming from the sump. And then i am informed that the motor has to come out to fix that problem.

I have only had the shudder since the steering rack was replaced, SO whats gonna happen when they put the motor back in.

Sure its a pain in the arse, but at least its being covered under warranty (it is right?)

at least its happening now, rather than a month out of warranty :yup:

just my thoughts though.

When they replaced the steering rack, did the dealer fit a new or a reco unit?

Mungrel is right too. Better that this all happens under warranty so it doesn't hurt your hip pocket.

Also, why not hit the dealer up for a loan car while they take the engine out? Could be a good chance to drive something different (after a day in a viva, I bet you'll be glad to have your ss back ;) ).

The motor doesn't have to come out to fix an oil leak from the sump. They can just drop the k-frame.

I've had a power steering shudder in mine since day one. Was told it was a 'characteristic' of the car. Same response from 3 different dealers. I've learnt to live with it...

Some tyres are worse, concrete is often worse, tyre pressures affect it, so yeah, it is part of the package.
Unless the rack has sh!t itself, changing it wont fix it.
Many cars aren't perfect. This is one of Holdens examples...

One of my work colleges had one for a company car, had the rack, rotors, bushes, struts and basically a whole new front end to try and fix the shudder but to no success. Dealer said the same thing it was a characteristic of model vehicle.

I have driven a few VZ series and none had the shudder. Interesting.

Often it will show up when the tyres are at a certain wear point, or at certain alignment settings. Crewmans were by far the worst with it.

Well mine did in from day 1 until now. Tyres were new and now they've got about 26,000 km on them. I also test drove a VZ SS and nothing. Like I said I got sick of being told it's a characteristic and now live with it.

I had a shudder in mine when taking off with the wheels turned , turned out to be something to do with the power steering hoses . I believe this is a known fault . Replaced the hoses and shudder went . Mick

We've had some that a simple hose replacement fixs it, and we've had another that had EVERY SINGLE PART of the power steering system replaced, and it was still there.
No two cars have IDENTICAL alignment settings, and this seems to be quite critical, in combination with the other things listed earlier.
