hey everyone just wanting to vent my frustration. I restored a 1964 EH Special with 3 on the tree original 1 owner 11,000 miles with my dad when i was 15. For the last couple of weeks it has been stored at his workshop, so it is driven out each day and is in the carpark all day. This morning the panel beater was moving the cars out, he had moved out two, a BA XR6 turbo Ute and the EH parked next to each other. He went back in to get the next one out and heard someone doing a burnout into the entrance of the car park ran out and the guy had lost it going around the island which splits the entrance of the car park and plowed straight into the BA and then into my EH with his VR. THe d!ckhead works at the end of the complex and always canes it through there, one of em almost cleaned up two small kids last week!!!! I mean its a car park for fcuk sake!!! anyway my dad has to write up a quote now and he wont be taking any shortcuts!!!! everyone says that at least he has insurance but thats not the point, you dont just ring up holden and order a new grille and quarter etc for a 64 EH!!!!! as you can imagine im pretty pissed off right now!! nice christmas present ey!!! :soap:

here are some pics, of it before, after, the ute, the carpark layout, and his car.

That's it mate... get it back, better than before, and make sure you use the best parts his money can buy!

yeh we will use the best platers etc for the chroming and stuff anyway because he has 3rd party so insurance will pay anyway. But as my dad said he doesnt want to need to repair it. Sure enough it will be the same looking again, but it was a 1 owner original never in an accident, now it has been!

Look at it this way, if it is panel damage, it is no different to replacing a rusted out panel, I'd consider a major structural change to consider it accident damaged.

I am on my second bumper on my CV8, but I don't rate a crack from a feral cat as accident damage!

hurts pretty bad when its the pride and joy that gets damaged... all those hours, dollars and fun just for someone to do this to it... looks like the repair bill will pretty damn hefty...

yeh but on an EH it aint a placcy bumper it is the whole front from above the grille all the way down to the the bottom where the fog lights are is one big panel so that all has to be drilled off and replaced et the guard on the inside of the engine bay has been creased, the quarter is completely shifted back etc. The guy didnt even have the guts to come get the car to take it back up there, some other bloke came down to collect it. The cops were there this morning and took statements from everyone who saw it then took the bloke away i think for the routine breath and drug test that they have to do then dropped him back. ahh well, not something that i wanted to happened but it will resolve itself im sure.

mate thats a shame, I still have my 1st car, a 65 Vauxhall Victor, which stays in the Garage at my dads place, we also restored it when i was in my Teens, and i would be devistated if some idiot smacked into it, while he was trying to get his stock V6 Commodore to screech the rear tyres.

I guess if you help the old man fix her up, it will be like old times, but not the way you would want to be doing it.

Hope she comes good again.

You and your Dads restraint in not reefing the guy out of his drivers seat and giving him a hiding is admirable!:)

The EH looked great - hope you get it back to the way it was.

oh what a dickhead i know how hard it is to get panels for classic cars and its not a matter of getting a brand new panel and spray it.

Geez he must have been going hard, what the hell was he trying to prove in a carpark. He certainly made a mess of that XR Ute as well as your EH.
You must have more restraint than me, i would have went ballistic if that guy had of hit my daily driver not to mention if i had an immaculate EH.

Absolute dog of an act, but yeah do what everyone else says spare no expense use the best parts and best worksmen.

Evening,

What a kick in the guts mate, but look at it this way.

You get up in the morning and go to work, have somewhere to sleep, and get fed on a daily basis. Do not have to dodge bombs, bullets or avoid land / car bombs.

Feeling any better?:xmas:

It is all relative!

Have a great Xmas!

Cheers,

Hogs,:)

Mate that is one bloody lovely EH, so orginal, I was thinking that it would look like some that I have seen, that being, suped up etc etc. Great to see an orginal EH.

Im sure it will be back in tippy top shape in no time at all.

I hope he goes to your workshop for a repair.

Put all sorts of rattles in it for him!

Mate I feel for you, sure you can fix and get it back to how it was, but after all the effort you put into it and then some d***head does that really cuts deep.
I hope you get to enjoy it this time

I would hope the bloke in the VR feels guilty for damaging other peoples property , especially a very tidy looking EH .

Sorry to hear about the EH. It is a very nice original looking example.:) Now if you say this tool nealy cleaned up 2 kids and a week later took out the EH then he needs a "attitude adjustment " to be carried out.

yeh about the restraint thing i haven't got to see the bloke. He stayed in his workshop all day and even sent someone else down to pick his car up! But the panel beater was about to flatten him until the mechanic opposite my dads stopped him. But he did manage to kick to guys door shut wen he was gonna get out. And gave him a verbal hiding. I don't think he was wearing a seatbelt either cos wen the beater saw him we was in the passenger seat! Wot gets me is it was a fcukin carpark on a normal business day. 1 min earlier and the beater would have been standing between the cars!

Ouch...I love EHs so that's really awful to look at - hope you don't have too much trouble with the parts and repairs.

Oh that sucks man.

You should get it repaired, and then mention to his insurance company exactly what was going on at the time. See if the insurance company will chase him for reimbursment.

well two cops came down and got statements from everyone who saw it which was quite a few and then took the bloke away with them obviously for their routine alcohol and drug tests and i suppose they asked him what happened etc and dropped him back off. I would think the insurance company wouldnt be dumb enough to not question how he managed to write his car off and collect two others and damage them quite badly when he was driving through a carpark and was only about 10m from a speed bump which he should have slowed down for. All will be worked out i'm sure but its a pain because it is hard to source good original parts, there was only 3 patches in two corners of the doors and one in the bottom of a gaurd which rust was repaired in, other than that every panel was in schmick condition. I would however like to see the bloke and tell him what i think of his driving skils or lack there of!!

Mate - that sucks!! I really feel for you..... :( What a dumb cnut the guy who crashed into you was! :vpo:

I have a huge soft spot for EHs! My first car (1972) was an original 179 3 on the tree EH Special like that. Over the course of 4 years it got bucket seats, 4 on the floor and reasonably extensive engine mods - I loved it to death! :yup:

Just read Ghosn's comment below - must say I was thinking along similar lines...... :(

I think once his insurance finds out, it will be null and void. I hope he has a deep pocket or at least his parents do.

Hope it works out for u in the end, such a shame, it never should have happened.

thats just terrible, i understand what ur saying, it can be fixed but its u know its been smashed now and u will always know in ur mind it has been hit. esp since is been in such good order for so long.

these stupid things happen, im sure it will be 100% back to normal after the repairs.

the car is a credit to you i love it!

lets hope that it doesnt get to this... it will end up a hell of a lot easier if his insurance pays out...

I think the normal process (in NZ anyway) is he (the victim) files a claim with his insurance company, who then charge the culprit's insurance company for everything, (including the victim's excess). The culprit's insurance will then turn around and charge the idiot, once all the facts are known to them.

The victim's no-claim bonus is unaffected as he was not at fault, and the idiot clearly was.

he gave us an RAC claim number yesterday, however the EH is insured with shannons and dad was thinking about maybe doing it through them because they might be willing to pay a bit more and we dont lose the no claim bonus because it wasnt our fault anyway.
When his manager or whoever it was came down for the car yesterday he said we shoulda punched him  he was like "i would've!"

Just file a claim with your insurance company and let them chase the idiot's money through his insurance company. Your excess will be paid by the idiot, and you would not lose your No-Claim bonus status..

The guy I bought my VX off had one of these in his garage, the light green colour, shiny grills but with a motor from a VR in it. Looked sweet. Not relevant to the thread I know, just jogged my memory EH + VR isn't always a bad combo like this one.

mate thats a pity, good luck with the repairs.

I hope the cops use the new hoon laws on him and suspend his license, or at least charge him with reckless driving, no seatbelt etc.

And my wife asks why I need 8 doors, 2 boot lids, 3 windscreens, 2 rear windows, 2 beaver panels, etc. Don't have a spare passengers front guard though.... You just never know when f#ckwits are lurking. All the best with the repair, at least you can personally oversee the repairs as well, but thats no concellation.
