Hi All,
Just a quick question-ages ago I had my car for sale-a dude comes around to check it out (older guy 40's) seems to be a bit of a rev head, owned a VY ss himself, was looking to upgrade, I THINK he just looked at the vin number throught the open panel just under my windscreen? Then he says its the "police pack" or something.. I didn't question it so I wouldn't look like a goose...lol Any validity to this???

I know it will have it on the build plate in the engine bay... its very possible the start/end of the vin numbers are the same for police pack vehicles aswell and he could tell from there. Other way to check is did you dash have holes drilled in it, sold with about 50thousand kms... check the service history for first owner?

chances are the guy was either confused or didnt know what he was talking about. Or there is a chance it was built for the police and then not needed so sold new, was it bought from the yard or ordered?

Sounds like a story to get a discount. The VIN in the screen is no different to the normal VIN.
For your knowledge, any dealer can print you off the full list of options your car was built with.

He may have seen "FE2 Suspension" on the compliance plate, I have heard a lot of people call that the "Police Pack", most if not all cop cars have this sports suspension and brake package fitted to their base models, most, if not all the SS's have it standard and it was an option on a lot of Commodores.

There are no plates ont he vehicle that will list that it is a Police Pack. I spose you could look for FE2 but that only works on an exec or omega as FE2 is standard on an SS.

Have a look in your log book to see who the vehicle was originally sold to, that would give you a good idea..

Police pack generally includes reverse sensors, pursuit wheel/tyre package and FE2 suspension.

But yeah as someone suggested, just go into a dealer, or make the phone call to the service department of the dealer.

P/Car doesn't stand for Police car. As far as I am aware, and I am happy to be corrected, it stands for "Passenger" car and all passenger cars are/may be stamped thus? I've seen a Honda legend and Yaris stamped as such.

Cheers

Glen

Yep, I'm sure you are right! I thought the easy way to tell was police ordered them with no traction control, so if you have t/c then it was never intended to be a police car????

Methinks the original guy was just a knobhead demonstrating that a little bit of knowledge is dangerous! Or was just using it as a ploy to knock the price down.

He was probally just tryin to knock you straight down.

Some states over east run SS cop cars dont they? WA just had V8 execs, dont even think they have them now. Saw a couple SS ex cop cars when out lookin for a car for my bro, salesman said they were ex east.

Do they still use BT1 as a cop car code?

Exactly right mate, chances are he saw FE2 suspension and got it mixed up with a BT1 Police Pack.

'P car' means passenger car NOT police car.

I know in the VT/X (cause I have a police pack), traction control wasn't fitted, has a digital speedo instead of a speed alert, has a 2km/h increment speedometer and also has an interior light isolation switch, which controls the interior, boot and glovebox light.

Not sure about VZ ones but it might be a starting point.

Cheers.

In WA they now have SV6's as unmarked cop cars---so watch out for them. The only way to tell it's a cop car is the lights on the rear parcel shelf, lights on the front dash and the copper in the drivers seat.

Easiest way to spot a Holden cop car is if it's an Omega with reverse sensors. That's your first clue. Take a closer look and decide if it has FE2 suspension or see if you can spot the lights on the parcel shelf. If you see one behind you, it's damn easy to spot the lights through the windscreen. There's 3 round sticky things forming a triangle holding it up in the middle part of the windscreen.

Mate, to tell wether yours is a police car, firstly, 17in 05 SS wheels in replacement on the 18in Monaro Wheels,

There should be a little button just behind the electric windows, it should have a light blub in a circle with a strike through it, think like a no smoking sign, without the cigarette, and replace with a light bulb, (confused!!!) this feature turns off all interior lights within the car, The feature is the most obvious way to tell it a police car,

On the driver side A Piler should have some drill holes 3/4 way down.

Rear Parking Assist.

Unusal wear and tear on the right hand side drivers seat bolster, gun holder often rubs

There should also be rements of a sticker on the driver side sun visor, as these cars get service every 5000, and they often lose the log books.

Log Books, who was the orginal owner!

Hope this helps

Cheers Steve
