Hello there,
I have just had a Harrop HH122 Blower installed on my completely stock VE SS M6. The boys at Autotechnique did the whole job in one day, drive in - drive out.....simply amazing. It made 316rwkw with a very conservative tune as the car has only done 1000k's. This was in the middle of everyone's guesses so it did what was expected. I believe Mario's current dyno is very conservative (I say 'current' as a little birdy told me he's getting a new one real soon)
On the road it drives just awesome but it was suggested to me that the stock exhaust would be a real restriction. I have some money set aside for brakes but I'm thinking of maybe an exhaust instead. I like the sleeper feel of the quiet stock exhaust so I definately wouldn't want a loud one. My main reason for posting is to ask you Guru's out there that if an extra 20rwkw's is gained with a new exhaust will it give me a noticable seat of the pants feel while driving?
The other reason for posting is to thank Mario, Ross, Dave and the boys at Autotechnique for their awesome work. With their new state of the art premises opening early in the new year, you could do alot worse than having a chat with them with regards some performance mods for your car.
Anyway........new exhaust or not? At around $4k I'd want to bloody notice the difference!!:xmas:

go and give your car a decent bootful and look at the standard headers and front half of your exhaust.... as soon as we boosted my mates s/c v6 up to 10 psi with a stock exhaust the thing glowed bright enough to see in the daylight... and that cant be good. you can get a free-er flowing exhaust and still keep it reasonably quiet with the right mufflers/resonators

Leroy !!!
Congrats !!!!
If you dont want to go the whole hog with the exhaust, just have ur mufflers chopped off and replaced with free flowing mufflers,we did this on a harrop blown ls1 as the customer didnt want to part with the dollars for a complete exhaust and it picked up another 22kw's..
:)

like said a blower and stock exhaust isnt a good mix.
I wouldnt be suprised to see more than 20rwkw from te exhaust aswell, and yes that will be very easy to feel seat of pants! Difillipo exhausts are only loud when accelerating hard, and at that stage the blower is going to be louder anyway so no point worrying about noise.
and 4k for an exhaust is full stainless headers, stainless 3" cats, and stainless twin 3". You can find simular performing setup cheaper than this... but with a brand new car it can be hard to justify cheaping out on parts...

Seeing as the H122 is the bigger blower and on the 6 litres is supposed to get closer to 400 than 300 rwkw, an exhaust upgrade sounds like a damn good idea. However, then you may also need a fuel system if it starts making some decent power...

Agreed with the exhaust, but dont skimp on the brakes. Nothing worse that a performance car that can not stop

Yeah, probably do the brakes first , then do the exhaust at a later stage . You have enough power for the moment :). ...Cheers John

Another one of Autotechnique's customers ('Tully' I think) had the bigger HTV Blower (or something) fitted to his GTS with a cam and an exhaust and it made 405rwkw. The Harrop kit comes with new fuel rails and bigger injectors, but to be on the safe side I think Mario set the rev limiter a 1000rpm lower.
Thanks for the opinions guys.............keep them coming.

Surely a decent exhaust will give a big increase on blown motor ,most bolt on cars exceed 20kw's with an exhaust upgrade.Brakes would be a very good Idea though and with such a nice blower there is alot more power ready to be had once you feel like that bit extra.

if your not doing track days no need to do brakes first... a blown car will slow from the speed limit at the same rate as a stock one...

Let me know when you go down to Calder because I want to see this setup shock the pants off everyone. Most people will groan at the sight of a stock exhaust and then be blown away with the result.
I love the concept of keeping the stock exhaust! Its great to have all the power in a quiet cabin.
BTW, how much power did you start with? I imagine you gained 100+rwkw?

Yeah, a gain of about 100rwkw would be about right, although they did not run it on the dyno stock.
Cost about $13k.

Definately do the exhaust mate. You will notice the difference and slap yourself for even considering staying with the stock exhaust!
Slightly off topic, but is anybody changing diff gears yet in VE's??

Leroy, how does the supercharger sound at idle, part throttle and WOT?
Have you had any problems with insurance?

It sounds like a very nice package ... I like the idea of the stock exhaust also ... which psi pulley are you using?
Thanks,
Alex

When you switch the car on you hear a small whine for a millisecond and then only hear the engine. You can drive around at about a quarter throttle (which is pretty quick in a 6l V8) and not hear the supercharger at all. At WOT I've had a quite a few looks and have scared the shit out of a few people. The whine is quite loud at WOT and has made me giggle out loud to myself. :) I just hope I don't give it WOT crossing an intersection and attract the attention of Mr. Plod.
I rang my insurer and told them I put a super charger on and they said they will note it on my file, which they did and I have confirmed that it is there.....no price change.
Not sure what psi pulley was used.
I will post up some pics shortly.
...........................spose I'll get the exhaust then.

Gee that would be nice...
"anything else to mention about the car mr leroy?"...
"No, nothing i can think of, oh wait, yeah just pop down its got a supercharger...i always forget thats there, you cant even hear it!"
"No problem sir, we'll make a little note of that!"
Wish it was always that easy and the coppers, you could prob tell them its a new air injection system for emmisions or something..might work with the stock zorst!!
Nice work mate!!

I love going through town & making people shit little brown bricks its fun. Fully agree with your statement above ,If you want to drive your mum around you can, if you want a rocket ship hid the loud pedal hard. I have the difillipo 2 1/2 cat back & i love the sound under the pump & normal driving. I am thinking once i have my auto beefed up i will go the 3" with new straws just for the idle sound. I would think with the std exhaust at full throttle it would sound shit at the arse??? Go the zorst you wont regret it,but the brakes should come first.

If that's the case then I'm guessing you're with one of the "regular" insurers like AAMI or NRMA. They won't insure you with a supercharger. Now you're going to find yourself with an uphill battle if you ever need to make a claim, regardless of what the person on the phone took down. Get it insured properly through one of the insurers like Shannons who do insure modified cars otherwise it may end in heartache.

On the subject of mufflers, anyone tried these? http://www.vortexexhausts.com.au/products.html
