View Full Version : Lead Up to Summernats - MRPSI / BLO402 / TRYHRD
Will keep this thread updated with pics of the final parts of the build leading up to Summernats.
Will be mostly MRPSI and BLO402 at first, it should be noted that we are only building the motor and tuning TRYHRD.

Tell me something please.............are these cars engineered and TAC approved? If they get pulled over by the Police do they have a certificate of compliance that they are fully road legal?
I really can't see MRPSI being legal
Am about to have mine fully engineered so I will be able to drive on the roads legally :)
Awesome cars by the way!!

By the looks of these guys' cars, I dont think their intention is to drive to Coles everyday. Their goal is to win Horsepower Heroes. You dont build a 2000hp atw setup, and expect to retain legality.
Good luck at the Nats guys. Cant wait to see them both on the rollers.

Scotty,
Haven't you started enough threads about your car already without trying to turn this into another.
FFS you don't have to be Einstien to realise these cars are not built as daily drivers nor would they be "exactly" road legal.
Make sure you post up your engineering certificate for all to see once you have it - with the NOS,Methanol Injection and 3.3 Whipple.

Mark,
I didnt mean to upset you mate! Oh, hang on... FFS I didnt mean to hit a nerve, lmao! It was a legitemate question as I know the authorities are alot harder on cars down there than they are up here!
Daily driver or not and whether you're Einstein or not, you wouldn't spend a sh!t load of money on a car for it to be defected the 1st time a Police Officer pulls you over.... would you?
I'll be sure to post up my engineering report once she's back from SummerNats! :)

Can't go into too much detail, but they are Higgins race heads.

Two main reasons for not going bigger than 402ci, firstly, there isnt much power advantage as we are really limited to the flow of the turbo. Also block integrity and strength can be lessened when bored.
The SBC in MRPSI is for a couple of reasons, firstly its a proven base, better availability of extreme parts, and better head stud design. A high priority for the customer was a well proven package, it was felt that at the desired power levels there was less experience in the industry with LS engines.

Wow! Cant wait to see what 40psi does!
I'm guessing thats through a manual
Both cars getting plenty of dyno time and both going strong. More tuning later in the week.
As Gary mentioned earlier, BLO402 is comfortably running over 1300 rwhp, MRPSI on its 5th run cracked 1300 also. Early days yet.

I'd reckon given that HPF and the owners of the cars both share the passion to push the boundaries and none of them would be in it for any sort of financial gain.
You must remember that Rob Vickery himself won Horsepower Hero's with the help of Ian back before the days of HPF.
Having seen the hours these guys put in to getting these things across the line I would doubt they do it for the hourly rate.
Real enthusiasts running a business, pushing the boundaries and sharing the passion.
Some talk it up, some promise the world ,some just post pics but I reckon these guys will deliver the goods again.
Good luck fella's.

Haven't made a post in quite some time.. but now's the time... awesome job HPF. I'd like to say sorry to Gary, but I don't know him (only got good advice and pleasant, honest rersponsers by email).

From the above numbers (post #93), does that mean Tryhrd won this year?

yes, tryhrd was the winner

Was it determined by the average of your runs, or simply highest hp with a minimum of 2 runs? Just wondering if Gus had done a shakedown run of 1100-1200 would he have won? Doesn't really matter, he still set a new record for the nats:D

Hey guys. First of all, congratulation on the figures. That is a massive effort that was very well rewarded.
I have a [noob] question to ask, and this is in no way a sh*t stir (if anyone happens to intepret that way). I was just wondering with the massive numbers the cars are running, do the numbers translate into quick times on the quarter mile or are these just purpose built high horse power cars.
Cheers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought TRYHRD went to the track and could only manage an 11sec pass? I don't remember seeing BLO402 going down the track other than when it had a bolt on motor in running 11s. The owner of MR PSI is the bloke who owned the silver vx that was twin turboed running 9s if I recall correctly

the cars would need tyres the size of a door slammer to get all the power to the ground, the cars are built for the dyno, but as Pillow mentioned Lyals other car has run 9's before.

Ahhhhh ok.
So MRPSI has another car that runs 9's? Holy sh*t, these guys must spend a fair bit on these beasts. Excellent to see that their hard earned money is yielding great results.
Thanks mate.

Does anybody know if TRYHRD is booked for any events in qld my boss just said he has seen it getting towed past Sunshine Coast monday morn ????
Hey Guys!
Needless to say we are wrapped with the results:
Top 4 cars qualified in forced induction small block:
MRPSI (Fully built by HPF)
TRYHRD (Motor built and tuned by HPF)
BLO402 (Fully built by HPF)
MRHDT (Tuning by HPF)
All 3 cars in forced induction small block finals:
TRYHRD 1895.7 rwhp
MRPSI 1713 rwhp
BLO402 1493 rwhp (ran a 1529 in qualifying)
And of course, Outright Horsepower Hero with an amazing 1895.7 rwhp from Craigs TRYHRD/HPHERO.
And to top it all off, the only failure of the weekend was the turbo on BLO402 which was outside of our control. All cars were driven onto the trailers, and MRPSI even ended the event with a lap around EPIC.
A full review from HPF, including specs and videos will be posted soon but for now here are some pics of the three cars:

Well done on your efforts guys.
Looking at all the custom work on these cars tells me there was lots of hours working and not much sleeping.
Looks like it was worth it.
