say you already own a vs 5ltr 5 spd manual ute and a worked 308 engine (5 ltr heads, bored out, demon carb, cam, etc) would you rather keep the vs ute and drop the 308 in that or purchase a done up wb one tonner with a crappy 253 and an aussie 4 spd and drop the engine in that and not have to f*ck around as much. maybe put a full manual auto in the wb also. wb is nice, been resprayed, polished wood tray, stock interior etc.
which would you choose?

Wood tray-ed WB all the way. Being an older vehicle, the emissions laws are going to be a lot less troublesome to you. On a personal note, I simply prefer the look.

some people dont care how old a car is, its the shape or look thats important
plus 350 to 400hp should be fun in a tonner ;)
I voted WB for the poll, but screw both options and just buy this!

If I didn't already have a worked 308 HG Premier, I'd buy it... Only room for one daily and one toy where I live atm :(

looks nice
the one my brothers looking at is like a light green (looks nice)
interior is whiteish, the metal above the dash is painted. my brother would fix it up though, get it retrimmed etc and change the tranny as the 4pd wont last long
I'm sure you can't go backwards with engines ie. put a 70s or 80s engine into a 90s car

which is what we thought, thought it would be a major hassle if you could

Agreed if you have the time & motivation I take my hat off to you.
You can have a bit of fun with it at the same time. I've done it & don't wanna do it again thats all.
Merry Christmas

Go the WB for sure. Its always going to be a better thing to hang onto for the long run and they can be made tough as hell.

Go a HQ tonner that way you dont have to worry about any pollution gear and all the other crap that comes with it. But a WB tonner with the injected 304 would be a great all round package, either way your bro is onto a winner.
As for the red tonner in muscle car sales $13000  are they for real, its tidy but it aint worth no where near that. But if thats what people are paying for them its time to pull my HQ collection out of the shed and get rid of a few !!

im sure he thinks about that, he's been chipping away at it since he was an apprentice. the engine builders were good like that

The tonners have always looked more sinister / tougher.

The WB is the only option, you cannot put the 308 into the VS legally. You cant even put a VN 5ltr into a VS even though emissions are the same (once VS induction/exhaust is on). Its all about older motors newer vehicles.

I am going to have to go ahead and disagree with most here....
I would stick with the VS.
Purely because I prefer newer metal..... Whilst I like the exterior of most of the older cars, the interiors (and lets face it, it's where you spend most of your time) are just absolute P'sOS!
The only way you would get me into an older car than a VR/VS or EB Ford would be if a nice XW/XY (not necessarily a GT or faker, a nice fairmont with a gassed up '51 would do) was available in my price range......
Not likely these days.

oldschool all the way! I cop heaps of crap from my mates about liking cars older than me, im only 25, but i have a 400hp hx one tonner and a 300kw cross8 and i would give up the cross8a hundred times over before i part with my beloved tonner. It's full of rattles and clunks, its got black doors and grey/rusty everything else and looks like a piece of shit but it sure does feel good when some unsuspecting bloke cant keep up in a brand new car!:burnout:

He made the right choice in getting a WB for his motor. Can I ask what he paid for it as I am thinking of selling mine soon.

Very nice WB although I would have gone with the HQ. You are going to plumb in all of the pollution controls, aren't you :stick:
Apart from that, all it looks to need now is a GTS dash and interior tidy up. Very tuff:bow:
That looks very tidy indeed.

clearly not, if you havent noticed alot of people like older cars done up.
the vs is old now anyway, how boring would it be if everyone just went for the latest and greatest, plus my brother doesnt like electronic crap he cant fix
