Just received my 100+ page brochure in the mail yesterday from Audi, telling me about how good the R8 is.

Of course, for the price it is well worth it but the specs aren't too flashy

R8 4.2 FSI Quattro

Engine Type: V8 Petrol Direct Fuel Injection

Displacement: 4163cc 4.2L

Tranny: 6 Man or 6 R Tronic Sequential

Top Speed: 301 km/h

0-100: 4.6secs

Fuel Consumption: 22L/100kms

Am I expecting too much from Audi?

Assuming the drivelines are very similar between the two - this modified version simply sounds awsome!!

Top Gear also gave rave reviews. I reckon they are horn, all wheel drive is the key.

top gear reckons it is one of the most livable supercars out there... the magazines seem to love it also... i believe it finished top 3 in motors PCOTY???

the cars are great... we had one sit in our showroom for a week or so when i was working in Perth... its a beautiful thing!!!
the v8 engines are great even if the power output seems modest...
... if you've got the cash though maybe you could hang out for the V10 version???

Apparently Ferrari will be heading down the path of smaller capacity engines and direct injection in the next few years.
Welcome to the new age supercar...

I would love an Audi R8 (or a HSV one for that matter). On paper they might not stack up to some of the biggest players but cmon, you can't deny it still goes the clappers, looks beautiful not only on the outside but also on the inside (uncommon amongst most of it's rivals), and from all accounts drives beautifully. As previously mentioned it would probably be the most drivable "supercar". If you could only have a one car garage it would be hard to go past the Audi R8.

I don't know why but i never really warmed up to the R8. What i would wait for is the RS5, now that car will be a beast. I like the current S5 but the RS5is the way to go, from sources (aka Audizine forums) its going to be something special.

RS8?

The R8 is so clincally good, it's downright boring.

To the people who say they look good, thats not why I would have one wholly. Just because Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano's look good, doesn't mean I'm going to pay 575k for looks, the V12 Engine would have to pay a huge part of that for me.

A hard cover 100 page brochure, some nice photos and some shit about race heritage doesn't sell me the R8. I will take an Aston Martin AMV8 Vantage over that anyday. A nice White or Green one for Neill me thinks would be yummy in my garage!

We got to have a hotlap or two in the R8 a little while back (at Eastern Creek) here is the video below. The RS4 was a much more entertaining and engaging vehicle in comparison.

WTF, Left Hand Drive? Black looks shitehouse on the R8, Grey (similar to evoke) would be my colour with the silver side panel thing. Tranny?

Similar criticism was levelled at the Honda NSX.

I have to say I find it slightly amusing how some commentators feel a sports car HAS to have (perhaps) twitchy on the limit handling, or a bit of resonance through the car etc to make it more "desirable".
What's really wrong with a stunning looking, high performance car that easy to drive?
Not too much, judging by it's worldwide sales so far...

I dunno, it's hard to pin it down. The RS4 was certainly not twitchy, but just had so much more animal about it. The grin factor with the RS4 was there (in bucketloads) where it just wasnt with the R8. Maybe it we had a set of decent tyres on it, and started to push it, think would be different. And btw I bet most of those R8 sales were from people who've never been in one, especially on a track. Mostly cashed up yuppies after a trophy more like.
