Happy new year to everyone out there.

I just have a quick question. Is anyone able to tell me how many VT SS series 1 (5 litre aussie motor) manuals were made? Or even point me in the right direction as to where I could find out?

thanks in advance

Jim

Take away my 1998 Bermuda Blue VTSS manual that has sadly passed on.:bawl:

You didn't happen to get that driveline from Northern Tasmania by chance Mungrel???

Naah i didn't tim, although it did come out of a Bermuda Blue SS...

Bloke i used to work with owned it, driving home from his parents one night passed out and wrote it off. It was a mess, the tailshaft was one big 'u' bolt, he said after her woke up he looked down and could see the ground through the floor pan.

When he showed me the pictures i was looking at what i thought was the front wheel because it was turned at about a 45 degree angle, then i saw the fuel door and realised it was the back end

Must be something about the bermuda blue ones hey?

farrkk, that looks nasty.
Unfortunately i don't have the pics of this one, but picture yours above with the roof squashed down a bit, and the rear wheels tire tread facing the camera and you get close!

An answer like this would be pretty hard to get.
There wouldn't be any 3rd party that would be able to tell you.
Best bet is Holden and even then they wouldn't be able to tell you unless they go back on their records 11years ago to see which 'vt series ss commodore' left the factory with manuals.
Highly unlikely they'd check it up for you.

However..
I have heard a number of times that APPROXIMATELY 30-40% of SS commodores are manual.
This is only a rumour though.

Ps. VT series 2 SS came standard with a manual apparently...looking at redbook.

Thanks very much for this information. The only reason I asked the question is because there seems to be far more auto's for sale, as we want to sell the car and wanted to know what you all think is a fair asking price. Details are as follows:

VT SS Series 1
5 litre
manual
120km's with books
raven blue colour
very standard car, straight and clean, apart from a few scuff marks on the rear door.

From what I have seen, manuals are going from $15k - $18k here in Victoria. I think this is far too much, so what do you think is a fair price right now?

I'd be estimating with a private sale you could yield 9-13K.
There are people out there who prefer the 5L but don't wanna go back to the VS style shape.

Thats the sorta person you wanna find :)

How recent are those estimations AFAR?

Reason being, with the introduction of the 6spd in '99, manual sales would have gone up purely because every man and his dog would have a had a hard on seeing the number 6 on the gear knob - bragging rights and all that lol.

One of the transmission specialists i spoke to a while back regarding the getrag 5spd behind the VT 5L, said he'd had bugger all experience with them because there was bugger all around. Whilst not a specific number, its something to go by.

I know why the price on the VT 1 SS's was so high, they were the newest V8 model commodore that a P-Plater could legally drive under the power to weight restrictions so they were fairly sought after. In July Vicroads changed the laws banning V8's from all new P-Platers, so I'd expect the prices to start to drop away fairly quickly over the next year.

But back to your question, I'd say you could get 15 for it if its in good condition... maybe a little more if the right buyer comes along.

So they seem to have kept their value quite well (just as well as the series 2 gen 3 models) and not far behind a VX SS which is great to see.

Well the car has done 121,000 km and is in good nick so I think $15,500 o.n.o would be a fair price. What do you think?

I sold my VTI SS 5sp only a few months back.

It was one of the factory HSV enhanced 195i (clubsport running gear) with sunroof, cruise, chip, red engine covers, cd etc etc.....so it was very rare.

I put it in the paper for $12K and it was sold and driven away the next day.

Im not exaggerating when I say over the course of the next two weeks, i got probably 80 phone calls for the car. I realise now it was worth a fair bit more than what i sold it for.

I would think $15K is a little high, but I would have though being a manual it would be around the 10-12 mark.

Hope this helps.

Looks bad but Holden engineering ensured that I was able to bust out of it (the door was jammed shut) without a scratch and without the help of RCR. I've seen the results of plenty of other makes with a completely stoved in roof that were not quite so forgiving.
