one of my mates drove my car up the road the other day and came back without my car. he said it ran out of fuel, but it had a quarter of a tank. now i got my car, it started, idled fine in neutral and park, reved it right out. still no worries. as soon as i put it in drive idle spazzed out, stalled a couple of times, finally got home. it took 10 mins to travel about 500 meters. now ive checked the spark no worries there. changed the fuel filter, and i gave up. i also checked the fuel pump and was wondering if, when i turn the reds on is the pump supposed to run continuously, or run for 3-4 seconds and cut out automatically? cause thats what its doing. i9f its not the pump what eles could it be?

Fuel pumps on Commodores are notorious for dying. This is especially the case if the car has been run low or out of fuel recently, as the pump uses fuel in the tank for cooling.

I'm pretty sure the pump will run for a few seconds to get the fuel pressure up then shut off until the car is started, but I could be epicly wrong.

Maybe do a search on "fuel pump" in the Holden Powertrain Technical section, which is the correct part of the forum for this type of (technical) question.

The fuel pumps only run for 3 or 4 seconds to bring pressure up in the system. Once your engine is running it will run continuously
