Hi guys this is my first post.
I have had my VT SS 5.7 for a year now and have had a twin 2 1/2 system put on with aftermarket cats and recently put on advanced tri-y headers. I noticed a much deeper grunt after putting the headers on and when i open it up it sounds awesome. It is auto and cant get the same fun out of the revs as with a manual.
I want it to be louder at idle and general driving, i was told by the guy that fitted my headers to take off the rear muffler and put pipes straight through, however will this make it drone like shit? or give it more burble/rumble that i am after? I've read a few threads saying that removing back muffler is a crap choice.
I dont want to modify anything else and just want that satisfying V8 note? My current Db value is around 106 at 3500rpm

Also is it bad for the trans to use the '1,2 and 3' gears on the auto?

Any responses/help would be greatly appreciated, all my mates drive turbos and lack the LS1 knowledge

You can remove the center mufflers and replace them with either hotdogs or straight pipes..
Removing the rear resinator will cause more drone though.

A cam will make it louder ;)

How much louder do you want it to be?

Go have a look at some twin 3" systems (Diffillipo system if you can). They seem to be the bee's knees for the ls1.
Sound awesome without attracting too much attention to the boys in blue, and apparently have the best potential power wise.

I'm happy with the exhaust that i've got on it at the moment, and don't want to spend much more on the exhaust, dont want to start with the cam either. I'm just looking for the little bit extra burble, either with removing the rear muffler, or central mufflers.
I would have thought if the central ones are removed that it would cause more cabin drone because they are directly under the cabin, whereas the rear muffler is under the boot (which is insulated)??

This is your best option.

Rather than hotdogs fit up a pair of square ended Magnaflow 4" resonators in the centre position, they are a bit too long and the heat shields need to be bent/modified.

You will finish up with a bit louder note at idle and a "V8 Super Car" type note under acceleration.

what is a bit louder?? and how much should i expect to pay for 4" magnafloe ressies, if it costs more than putting a straight pipe through the rear...is it really worth it??
