Anyone had a chance to look at the new Toyota LandCruiser LC200? What do people think of it?

The new V8 Diesel sounds like a nice motor. 10K is quite a bit extra for the privilege over the petrol.

I took the V8 Turbo Diesel for an hour long test drive and it was an awesome bit of gear.
It has a heap more get and go than the previous model and the whole thing just felt so much more modern.
I was keen until they told me $112,000 on the road without any accessories.
By the time you chuck on a bullbar and a few bits and pieces your soon be at 120k.
I think I will hang to my 2006 TD VX Cruiser for a couple of more years.

I've had a test drive of both the petrol and diesel versions and the diesel is by far the better option. 10k is a big jump up but the 6 speed auto matched to the torque of the diesel is an awesome package. Its a lot of money but compared to the Prado but its well worth it.
$85k on the road for the base GLX.
$96k for the VX
$112k for the Sahara

The KDSS suspension is also a big improvement from the 100 series.

There are some unresolved issues with the 6 speed auto on the diesel - it won't select until you are exceeding 110 km/hr from what i understand. It will not "hold" its gear under "lug/labour"

And i have heard that the alternator is mounted very low on the engine and may be susceptible to water and dirt.

the auto doesnt shift into 6th until after 100kph, which is fair enough, the TD would be the option of the 2, and for touring, the cheaper model with sub tank would be the go.

Looked at a 76 model for my needs, extreme outback desert touring, but 18 month waiting list, will go back to a 100 TD, as we do hundreds of suspension and power upgrades to these, along with other mods, and they go/stop/handle the outback travel very well.

We've sold heaps of them, but haven't heard too much yet. Bit pricey, but they go well. I think they are over 3t now. Getting bit heavy for our hoists.

Looked at one & walked away just as quick. Don't like the headlight bumps, tail lights & the price (prefer the 100 series). Besides my 60 Series Sahara T/Diesel looks like the new 79 series without the price tag & I bet it's twice as reliable. When you look under new 4by's all you see is a bit of tin plate protecting the gearbox/transfer case, not like the solid steel you get on the old ones. I would hate to put some of the modern stuff over some decent rocky ramp over situations (albeit Hummer) I think you would be walking back for your transmission. Sounds like I'm biased, Oh well ! it's saved me $80-$90 Grand & that makes me feel better !:)

Haven't had any problems with my 70 series, had it for 7 months and have done 61 000kms road and underground with it, not too bad on juice either, can easily get 450k off a tank(U/G and road driving) and plenty of grunt especially when compared with the old 79 series.

The turn offs for me are;

The Diesels in VX or Sahara spec only have one fuel tank.
No reversing camera in GXL.
KDSS is an option on GXL Diesel

I thought the same thing mate - that would be a real pain after being use to the previous twin tank set up with the 1000km range.
Even towing a 3000kg boat from Berwick to Echuca and back { 600kms }
there is never a need for a fuel stop.

We have sold heaps aswell with absolutely no complaints.
And yes, they are definately getting heavy, sounds like you guys need to get some 5 tonners in your workshop!

The cruisers are getting ridiculously heavy. Yet it seems they are actually skimping on some areas, like bash plates (and alternator positioning.) What the hell? I am over buying cars that keep getting heavier and heavier. The weight certainly wouldn't be an advantage over some off road situations.

Unfortunately, Toyota charges a premium for the "Landcruiser" badge. They think it's more impressive than "Hummer" or "Range Rover." They have always charged a $10k premium for the diesel in Australia even with the dinosaur inline 6 (130kw). In the US, the LC200 is much more expensive than the larger Sequoia, that has a better interior and the same engines and transmissions as the LC200, and will even include the diesels for 2009 for Sequoia and Tundra. So, around March or April, our choice (cos there are a lot of choices here) will probably be the Tahoe. Just wish GM would hurry up with the 4.5L Duramax diesel V8.

Mike whats-his-name from the Herald Sun in Melbourne has just finished his review of the new V8D - and given it a right panning. Mostly due to Toyota's refusal to comment on the fact that the 6 speed selectors don't kick in til over 110 - apparently they are still carrying the Euro AutoBahn settings for 130+ speeds.

The advertised fuel economies are also a load of bunkum (apparently), so you might want to do your research on "other" forums before you go shelling out mighty heavy dollars for what is just a tarted up (and bloody heavy) 'Cruiser.

All advertised fuel economies are bunkum. They are heavy but if you look more than skin deep you can soon see why. Its a quantum leap from the 100 series in performance, comfort, refinement and 4wd capabilities.
