Hi all.

I have a high flow air filter and an SS Inductions (or as some call it, SS Reductions) OTRCAI, but the census seems to be that the SS Inductions brand is shite.

Are there any opinions out there on what the best type of OTRCAI is, or why the SS Inductions one is so crap?

I've attached a pic of my SS Inductions system, as you can see it doesn't seem to be too restrictive. I was wondering if anyone knew why they apparently suck so much?

:search: and you'll find plenty of info about them. Many people on here got bitten by their earlier stuff as it didn't work too well (some people apparently went backwards in kw) and broke/cracked. The later stuff eg Growler is apparently OK but I know of someone who went from one of them on his VE to just a normal pod filter and picked up power and torque all through the range.

Asking for opinions on OTRCAIs is probably like asking for opinions on which footy team to barrack for........ Everyone will have a different opinion.

Anyone want a can opener for these worms? One question, why would you buy something that you know has a nick-name for how much it doesn't work?

I didn't buy the SS Inductions system, it came with the car. I only got it about a month ago. I want to get a few basic mods sorted as far as intake and exhaust go, and then get it dyno tuned at either LS1 or Enhanced.

Yes, they are supposed to suck, very funny :jester:
Can someone please tell me why SS Inductions DON'T suck as much?

Oh, and searching for info on OTRCAIs is like finding a needle in a haystack. It seems to be the third most used word on this site, right behind 'and' and 'the'.

The CSV one works well but gets rid of most of the induction roar. I was shocked when I had it fitted and my car went all quiet.

mate i have the same as u a wide mouth ss cold air inductions and also came with the car i bought. the thing is with that set up the air travels alongg way before it get 2 the throttle body. with a otrcai it goes straight in and straight 2 the trrottle body producing cold air.which means way more power after a tune. i think the alloy 1s are better because they dont crack like plastic 1s hopefully that helps.:)

ahhh, cheers pete, I think I see what you mean:

The SS Reductions one has the air sucked over to the right, then down to the airbox, then across and back upwards towards the throttle body. So, the proper OTRCAIs go straight from the intake, through a filter, through the MAF and straight into the throttle body?

I had a look at some pics on google of them and i can't see where the MAF goes, is it still included or are they for MAFless tunes only?

My advice...

Dont buy one with one of those sponge filters in them, shocking to clean and they get all dismembered once you pull them out put them back in..

Put something on top of the radiator to absorb the heat or they just get hot.

something between the radiator and the OTRCAI. I did on my commy worked a treat. Bit of plumbers insulation tape in between and you will wear the dolmio grin.

my ute came with the usual ss reductions so chucked it on ebay and WOOO HOO $230 later im cheering, i got vz zz intake pipe stolen of my mum as she got a yella terra for hers, the vz ones are bigger and no where near as restictive as vt vx and vy's intake pipe and installed uni filter, and cut whole front side of air box off and made heat shield to protect a little from the radiator air coming through, that will make noticeable difference on stock, but nothing beats an otr, i got a marranos alloy from the Group Buy, and is looking better as i got the metal polish on it and its getting closer to chrome looking insted of brushed look, few more polishes with the drill bit and will be very bling

Except for the fact they get hot........ which might influence the air at idle and slower speeds. I think a lot of guys were looking at HPC coating the metal ones.....

It's simple, the quickest route to the throttle body the better. Look at the massive journey the air flow has to travel in a stock or ss inductions system, twisting and turning to get there. (1) OTR (2) pod, more direct journey. Ram air like a bike...
