I was reading through an old motor magazine and they had a comparo on 9 aussie muscle cars. There was a mixture of Fords and Holdens. They put all nine cars on the same dyno and the results were as follows....
WK CAPRICE 5.7 158rwkw or 64% of claimed 245kw
XR8 192rwkw or 73% of claimed 260kw
Monaro CV8 182rwkw or 77% of claimed 235kw
SS 178rwkw or 75% of claimed 235kw
SV8 174rwkw or 74% of claimed 235kw
GTS Coupe 222rwkw or 74% of claimed 300kw
Clubsport 195rwkw or 75% of claimed 260kw
FPV GT 225rwkw or 77% of claimed 290kw
XR6T 185rwkw or 77% of claimed 240kw
Most of them appear to have lost 25% through the gearbox/diff to the wheels.
Is Holden losing more power through its drivetrain? I was led to beleive that Fords KW numbers are the more generous way of measuring (DIN) and Holden were more conservative but the results up here suggest otherwise. Also look at the irregularities between GEN3 Caprice, Monaro, SS, SV8.
Further Im sure Holdens LS2 297kw car made more than 222rwkw on the dyno. Is the old Callaway 300kw soft when next to a LS2?
