I have leather in mine, and let me just tell you, when i buy my VE in a couple of months i most definately am NOT getting leather again.

It's hot and sticky in summer, freezing cold in winter, if you leave the car with the sun shining onto the seats, the leather will burn your skin and radiate heat into the car reducing the effectiveness of your aircon.

It looks great, but to me, it's honestly not practical.

Leather in Mildura?? Your going to fry your backside everytime you leave your car in the sun!

Remember to have a windscreen shield as it blocks the heat from turning the leather into a stove.

Did you know it's possible to make the leather so the IR thermal characteristics are the same as textiles :) Did it about 8 years ago. A lot of it is sold into Europe - Holden never wanted it though

Leathers nice but needs plenty of TLC.

Does it? If it gets dirty, quick wipe with a damp cloth and it's clean again unlike cloth which stains. That's about all I do to mine (leather conditioner once a year or so) and it's over 4 years old and perfect condition.

A little related question, whats the difference between the leather in the CalaisV and the statesman/caprice ? In the brochures it says 'leather seat inserts' for CalaisV and 'premium soft touch leather' for the statesman/caprice.

Each to their own I guess.. My VE SS is my first leather car and its fine.
It has been stuck out in the sun in 39C, but with a tint and windscreen reflector the seat is a bit warm but not much more than with cloth.

I originally wanted cloth, but was disappointed that I could only get the Phantom mica with the red cloth inserts which I didnt want. I was also glad the leather pack included the side airbags..

Hmm, I must say I do prefer Leather...........but then Alcantara is pretty sweet too. I wouldn't have cloth ever again, no need as I never park in the sun.

I have light urban leather which I first thought keeping it clean and looking new would be a nightmate, but in facts its really easy. I simply use McGuires Laeather Wipes and very ocasionally run over it with McGuires Leather Conditioner. ATM it looks as good as the day I bought the car.

My best effort was scattering a Custard Tart all over the back seat during a mountain/twisties run. A bit of wet rag and wipedown and to my surprise and the mates along on the day, all was good and the leather cleaned up fine.

Yeh it gets warm in the sun but as said previously, with the window tints of today its not bad at all.

I'm always looking to improvement of anything. Can you post up or PM me the detail of the thermal treatment for leather, and an approx cost.:)

We are talking of S/H goods now, if there looked after as you say from scratch its all good.

Sorry mate - it is not an aftermarket treatment.... it is how it is originally made by the tannery that makes it different. If ever you want to reupholster your car, especially black, then I can supply leather to suit. Discount to all LS1 members :)

Im with you buddy I have owned a heep of cars in my time, the VE clubby is my first with leather & my last. I wear shorts most of the year, the car isnt in the sun much making them cold, when its in the sun they are hot. yes they are nice & look good, but the wifes vectra cdxi has better german (standard) leather than holden softer material not quite as bad but still simillar.

After a second look at those seats, hate to be a spoil sport but they're in ordinary condition to me, done a few miles??. For $600 odd dollars the money would have been better spent re shedding your own interior I think.
Just my 2c worth.

Thanks Darryl. The Calais leather is in truth holding up real well for a 40,000 k car considering the white type colour (with wifey and two kids).

I need someone to make me some bigger side and seat bolsters similar to the HSV Senator. I'm getting a bit tired of trying to balance on the circuit and motorsport stuff with the small type bolsters of the Calais.
