View Full Version : Brake Dust
As far as I know my E-Series Clubby has factory break pads but I seem to get a lot of brake dust on the rims. No more than 2 days after cleaning them are they coated again!
Any recomendations on pads that leave less dust?

Mine are shocking as well and what makes it worse is the wheels are damn hard to clean...
Yeah it's pissing me off and I haven't had the car a week!
I have plans to take them off and put the car on stands, wash them (and the calipers) and then use a good wax on them...

This is the price you pay for the very high performance DS2500 Ferodo pads.
EBC should have an option for you.

If they're anything like the pads in my APs, the stopping power far outwieighs a bit of dust. I did opt for easy to clean 5-spokers though. :)

Get different pads if you can afford it.
i duno if itd help, but i know you can get a spray that you spray on and leave for an hour or two and it protects your wheels from brake dust, dirt, grime etc...duno if it works lol...hanvt tried it myself

I found the wheel cleaner spray in the HSV owner's pack makes cleaning soooo much easier. Had never owned a car with dusty pads before so I was persisting with my old fashioned ways and it was driving me nuts, taking as long to clean the wheels as the rest of the car. Since I started using the spray the dust issue doesn't bother me that much, although I don't do a lot of km between washes. It would be interesting to try a low-dust pad and see if braking performance is compromised. BTW there are already a couple of other threads on the topic of E-series brake dust.

i thnk that most decent brake pads are gonna make more dust as there a little softer like my lucas, there the best ive ever used, bendex ultimate are shite and the pbrs i just replaced were still ok, also you got 365mm rotors and huge pads then on top of the you got curved slotted rotors that slice through the pads everytime you use them..... im prob wrong but the way i look at it the Dust free (harder) pads will prob chew your rotors out alot quicker and they would be close to $500 each
I tried an Armor All aerosol product and it halves the work load to keep the wheels clean. U clean the wheels first then apply the stuff as a clear coat and the wheels attract less dust. It works for me and i use ferodo ds2000 pads which are worse than stock pad for black dust.

We have some new wheel wax that is very good for Brake dust, send me a PM for details
Havent had the brake dust problem on me new VE yet, my VR used to be fairly bad, but some alloy polish had them looking like new in no time

You have different rotors, calipers and pads... There is not a big problem with brake dust on non-hsv models.

Personally I'd just stick with the stock pads and invest in some wheel wax to help make your life easier when it comes to cleaning the wheels. I'm sure AP Racing and HSV went through some kind of development to get the brakes performing effectively whilst minimizing wear on the rotors and not making squealing sounds like the Harrop brake packages did on the previous HSV's. (Trust me, squealing brakes really get on your nerves after a while)

ditto!!!
look like sh!t two hours after cleaning them!!!

btw what about the PITA trying to check tyre pressures with the deep dish style alloys and, narrow gaps for access on the rims.
