View Full Version : Gear Selecting issue

Hi all, I'd like some opinions/experiences if anyone has had this .
I am finding it extremely hard to select gears with my car (VYSS). When the car is off the gears select no problem, but when the engine is running it is nearly impossible to select, paricularly 1st and reverse, it is also near impossible to shift down. :bawl:
in discussions with the workshop i go to, it was determined that we require a new clutch. So i thought hey, while im getting the clutch fixed i'll stick on a full difillipo system .
So i pick the car up yesterday, and was told that the new clutch might be a little tight in selecting gears but will bed in within about 1-2 thousand k's.
Unfortunately this has not fixed my original problem, if anything it's worse! But the difillipo is sweet and in the limited amount of driving i have done has made a huge difference:)
Has anyone experienced this?

it has a ripshift, and an option 2 ace clutch was installed.

Does your gearbox make any noises while driving?

Have you had the slave cylinder changed ever?? If the slave is worn this problem can occur especially when worn out..

Yep, we installed a brand new slave cylinder with the clutch, maybe it has failed after installation?

Oh really, id have almost layed some cash down that the slave would be to blame for this problem as its usually a sign its gone or on its way out. And after a new slave and clutch the problem isnt better but actually worse has me stumped mate...glad you love the di filippo though mate :)
Ok one more question, where is the pedal enaging and disengaging...near the floor or around halfway?? Im sure if it was near the floor you'd be taking it back anyway but just wondering.
Otherwise gearbox syncros could be worn???

near the floor, in fact the clutch "creeps" with my foot to the floor engaged in first gear with out my foot on the brake.
I don't understand how the syncros could gone like that, the car only has 80,000 k's on it, of which i've only done about 1500.
Unless i have bought something that has hard a hard time.
I wish the car drove as good as it sounds! I'm sure it will eventually, and after who knows much $$$$$.

Not a problem at all if its engaging near the floor...why its creeping is because the clutch isnt fully disengaged when your flat on the floor, hence the car creeps. No wonder your having trouble changing gears as your basically fighting the syncros in the gearbox mate (up and down)!
Get the pedal adjusted correctly mate and all your problems are solved!! Very easy fix and maybe you could even do it yourself! Not an expensive fix so sorry for scaring you mate haha...you'll be loving it shortly after sorting it out

Otherwise gearbox syncros could be worn???
That's what I was thinking but I'm pretty sure the box would start making noises if that was the case....

Sure its not something simple like air the in the clutch line?
That would explain the low take up point wouldn't it?
And it could cause the clutch to not disengage all the way causing problems in selecting.
Did you get the remote bleeder line at the same time?

sweet mate, thanks for the advice, i'll call em in the morning and hopefully it is only the pedal adjustment.
maybe we can catch up for a cruise some time.
Cheers.
