MATE I use diesel or kero on a clean rag have for 40 years it melts the tar and you can just wipe it off:)
use it on my paint to get tar spots of all
,so no problems :) useuly wipe it over before i polish it to remove all the tar but if you only have a small amount just use the KERO on a rag works fine

Bug and Tar remover is a mellow version of Prepsol, go to any Autobarn store or repco etc and buy a small tin of Prepsol it willl remove all marks like Tar and badge glue etc without harming paint or anything very safe and easy to use. Just put some on a rag and wipe away!!:)

WD40 works a treat on paint and wheels too... Hose the car down, spray on (watch the tar melt away) then wash as normal...
It strips the polish off the car, so you should then give it a polish :)
