with all the rain lately noticed my wipers are getting very jumpy in light rain. ok until the rainx starts to wear off.
got quite jumpy on the w/end. when i washed the car yesterday noticed a scratch on the window. then noticed the passenger side blade had come out of two clamps and must have scratched the window. probably came out due to all the jumping bouncing or whatever it is.
i have silicon blades, i might change back to rubber and see if that gets any better. anyone else had this and solved it?
i noticed they go better if i used the washers, stops doing it probably acts as a lube until it washes away again.

My old man had his clamp things come out and leave a deep groove in the window, he didnt even heard the deaf bastard. Just changed the blades and all worked well again.

Mine jump in the VE too.. shits me to tears.
Only in light rain though.. they are brilliant in heavy rain.. they just get to much grip when theres not enough water on the windscreen i think

I've never had a good run with the silicone blades. I find that the old rubber Trico blades are good - but you need to change them annually. I'm a tight arse & usually push it out to 2 years (car is garaged & rarely driven in the wet). I also put a splash of metho in the washer bottle to help cut through any road grime etc.

grime helps stop it, its when the window gets very clean that they stick and jump in light rain. rainx is good but in light rain a low speeds still need the wipers, and they wear off the rainx coating eventually then they start jumping. i think u can get rainx u can add to the washer bottle i might get some of that to see it it helps.

Everyone really should be replacing their complete wiper heads (blade assemblies) every 4 years or so. This is common in (often wet) Europe, where cars like the Astra you can't even buy refills for. When they get some slop in them, they lay over too far, increasing this noise problem, not to mention cutting the quality of the wipe.
From my 20 years or so in various parts of the industry, stick to genuine/Trico. They always do the job you want without grief, not like all this coloured, multi edged, multi blade, siliconed, whatever else rubbish on the market!

Rubbing over the windscreen with some soap and "0000" grade steel wool every time you wash the car also works a treat when combined with new blades.
Just make sure you don't use the household steel wool. :)

Agree completely. I learned the hard way trying all the whizz bang refills - but always went back to Trico/OEM. Also, as mentioned, the whole blade assembly needs changing every couple of years. They lose their tension on the screen.
Holden blade assemblies are very reasonably priced - from memory.

is that the whole blade assembly right back the the mounting nut, or just the arm that clips to the end that holds the blade that is also removable?

i just put some soapy water over the windscreen and let the wipers run a little, that usually does the trick

yeah the soap (or other soap style additive) in the washer bottle seems to work for me, and some rubber wipers.
i usually find that the wipers grip more when the windscreen has very little water on it, hence the soap from the washer helps in that scenario:yup:

Just the head section, has holds the rubber refill.

thanks that seems to have fixed it. looks like all the little arms get worn, that slack causes the problems

I noticed yesterday my drivers side wiper is jumping alittle in light, I've got the rainx you add to your washers bottle which seems to work alright at speed but a low speeds i have to use wipers, I replace the wipers less then 12 months ago cant remember which brand though maybe they are sticking to the windscreen too much..
