I'm very sceptical about spending that sort of money on oil, aside from Steves products (Mainlube) that are tested and prven to have better results than off the shelf products.
I stopped using Mobil 1 as it was bloody expensive and compared to the Castrol Magnatec I currently use is not worth the $$$s.
Oil is horses for courses really, Steve might be able to shed some light on the Neo stuff

yeah very true im just keen on some straight facts on a good all round ls1 oil
that neo looks the good with alot of positive feedback from other forums but the over rated price..?
with the typical off the shelf products no matter where i read the oil that makes one persons car run nice and quiet with great oil pressure and near no burn will make another persons car a heap of oil burning noisy crap so this subject is very out there no one motor is the same if any workshops want to shed light on a oil that is tested and a proven performer in a car with around 90,000kms ?
im keen on changing mine as my oil pressure gauge is reading a little low due to the fact the oil is on the 1 litre top up line and i have no idea what oil is in it to top it up as i brought it from a holden dealership in castle hill the motor isnt noisy at all its very very quiet .

I use Maganatec 10-40 which a fair few on here use aswell. I'm a sick puppy and actually measure the oil that comes out of my car, although it wont be 100% accurate it still gives me an idea of what it uses which is minimal.
the way I see it in the average lifespan of your vehicle and the time you own it spending big $$$s on trivial stuff like oils (especially for astreet car) isn't worth it. Vehicles have been running on these off the shelf products for years and years.
It has been mentioned that different oils quiet down your motor and help with L/100klms, whatever you find that you're happy with use.

Heartland Castle Hill use Mobil Semi Syn 10-40w for their LS1 services. I would top it up ( & overfill by 1/2 litre) to avoid any oil starvation problems when taking off at WOT from a standstill.

Running a few of the NEO products in my SS at the moment, got to order some more engine oil and brake fluid very soon actually. The oil is good stuff, quite a few Americans use it and being good for the environment and getting extended service intervals out of it can be a bonus.
The injector cleaner is one of the best on the market though.

I wouldn't leave it in for 40K - even if the the oil is top stuff. I recall many years ago - I was in a car club and we had an oil company rep at a club meeting. The oil guy says the oil itself hardly degrades between changes, the biggest problem is the stuff that contaminates it over that time. Dollar wise you would surely be better to something decent, but not top end, and change it regularly. This would have been over 30 years ago (probably about 35), engines (and oils) have changed since then, but I'm sure that statement is still valid.

This is definately still a valid statement from what I have been told, even to the point where people change there oil and not the filter, my mechanic tells me you are better off changing the filter and not the oil if you are only going to do one of them to remove some of the contaminents as the oils dont break down. Of course thou, you should change both oil and oil filters on a regular basis.
I use mainlube in my car, it's expensive compared to oils off the shelf but when you consider the total cost of the premium fuel you put through the car between oil changes the cost of a super premium oil is nothing. ...well that's how it justify it anyway.

To extend oil change intervals you must start oil testing @ 10,000 klms, then each 5000 klms after that to see what the best is for that car under those conditions with that driver, to not do this is asking for BIG trouble.
I'm constantly sending samples from Mainlube users off to the lab at present to determine their change period, this completely changes with long trips all the way back to track work with severe over fueling etc being part of the issues with long drain intervals.
Mainlube doesn't guess like other oil companies.
I recently tested an oil (not Mainlube) that was extend dramatically, only because it had 1 micron filtration etc fitted, the oil was totally knackered and the owner was very lucky not to loose an engine, you just can't guess.
Cheers
