thanks for the info. and no its not going to be a competitor to ls1.com.au its not intended as that, just somewhere for perth people(and interstate) can talk cars, as well as off topic etc

vBulletin is PHP and all the data is stored in a mysql database.
It's not hard to set up if you know ya way around linux.

As long as you have some sort of php/sql it will :) And from what i remember vbulletin has some fairly decent yearly licencing fees, a good and free alternative is http://www.phpbb.com/ :) Fairly similar in what you can do to vbulletin....

I think you'll find it's just as easy to set up on a server running a Microsoft Operating System as PHP4 and MySQL are both free and compatable to download for Linux and Microsoft. I build sites using PHP4/MySQL on a microsoft machine but host on Linux box.
