i baught some split engine covers with the chev logo on them over ebay, finally got to my house month and a half later, sh*&tiest lump of fibreglass i have ever seen, chips all over them, only one cover had the logo on it, where they mold around the manifold was right angles and odd shapes, as if they snapped it strait of the fibreglass mold to top it off the mount holes and the oil cap hole was not ever there!. i wrote an abusive message and he said i can send them back for a full refund, anyway i sent them off in the post, 4 months later and god knows how many emails sent with no reply, i still am without my money. Bastard. And as if negative feedback does jack.
(funnily enough i seen the same covers on a yellow maloo at motorvation, looks like he has done alot of prep work to get them looking good but still looked pretty sharp around manifold!)
Anyone else been ripped of good with dodgy ebay products and even dodgier dealers?

Yep, has happened to me before, my item never arrived in the mail and all I got was excuse after excuse. In the end I lodged a dispute with the seller to Ebay, it took a few weeks to process and I got most of my money back.
Then leave negative feedback for the ba$tard :flipoff:
i bought a catch can for a good price off Ebay which was shown to be polished alloy, and it turns up with the base polished and the rest the normal alloy look. not worth the hassle of complaining so just put up with it.
as for the engine covers do you have an original pic from the ad? if you send that in with a dispute to Ebay it may help to get a refund. when buying this sort of thing get them to email you an exact photo of the item youre buying, if they wont do it theyre dodgy, and if they send you an item that doesnt match the photo, take the item, photo and email trail to court and get your money back plus expenses.

Ebay is really no different to anything else in life.
Do your homework about the seller BEFORE buying.
Most people who buy things just look at what is for sale, fall in love with it, and buy it almost blind. In many cases, someone else with awesome feedback will have the same thing, for perhaps a little more, but worth every extra dollar for the security of an honest seller.
Most people aren't dodgy. In my own case, my only two negatives came from sh!theads that refused to pay me, so they got negative feedback, then they thought they'd be heroes and give me negative feedback in return! Otherwise, I'd be 100%. Another example is that some sellers were selling the wrong grilles for VE SS/SSV lately, and people were emailing me saying "will you match this other price", even though mine were the more expensive "correct" ones, not the cheap "wrong" ones. I told them they would be buying the wrong ones if they buy those other ones, so what do they go and do?
THEY GO AND BUY THE WRONG ONES OFF THE OTHER SELLER! Those buyers really only have themselves to blame in that situation!
The feedback system does tend to be a fair guide to how people operate, but there will ALWAYS be some dodgy people in life, no matter where you go.

The worst thing about feedback i you buy someones dodgy s#!t and you justafiably leave negitive feedback then they return negitve feedback when you have done nothing wrong except being a sucker.

The only problems I've had are with things going missing in the mail.
Had an express post parcel stolen by the driver and an empty envelope arrive from the USA because of poor packaging.
I used to trade on e-bay quite a bit. Only ever got stung once, by a dude in South Australia who had set up about 10 different accounts, given them all positive feedback from the other accounts (so all the accounts seemed respectable) and then did a BIG sting.
All in one hit he placed, Laptops, memory sticks, digital camera memory etc. for sale on all the accounts all at the same time.
All the sales finished at the same time, and everyone paid their money (I only bought a $120 CF memory card for my camera). Naturally nothing materialized and I started getting messages from other buyers who didn't get there stuff.
Luckily I had conversed a little with the seller and through a couple of connections I had at the time, got a bit of information about the guy and forwarded it all on to the South Australain Electronic Crime Division.
In the end, the guy had fleeced around $70,000 from various people, and the cops caught him with most of the money still in his possession. Turned out he was a jail absconder who had been servicing 7 years for FRAUD! :)
Bubba's probably giving him a hiding as we speak!!! :lmao:

I've (touch wood) never had a bad experience on ebay although im sure it could happen one day..
I've had somethings take a bit longer than they should to arrive but they usually do..
Most annoying thing i find is when i bid on items from a decent sized shop that are an absolute bargain and no one else is bidding - almost everytime without fail when there is a day left, 'someone' *cough* from the shop *cough* creates a dummy account/Shill and outbids me.. the 'person' outbidding me has always only just joined that very day and has no purchasing history or anything... but theres no way to prove it !!

I have bought a bit of stuff from eBay
...never had a problem (pay for all with Paypal coz u have recourse
if the seller stuffs you around)
and over the past few years only ever had 2 problems......
most recently with an arrogant SOB seller
who refused to provide the total to be paid, didn't answer msgs
asking for an amount (and where to pay) and then put me up for
an ''Unpaid item' dispute without responding to my requests
or sending any msg himself..why no payment?
When I asked, in reponse to the dispute, whats going on...?
why didn't you answer my payment requests?..... this bloke
went bezerk...and I got crap in answer to me requests. :vpo:
In the end...I said forget it ..I don't deal with abusive hostile sellers
and said so ..in feedback.:flipoff: He reckons I defamed him (he forgot
all about his abusive msgs) and will get me banned.
oh dear.....:spew:
200+ good sellers...and ONE A#**HOLE is my eBay experience

I've had two things go wrong so far.
The worst was I bought an amp on ebay, and stupid me didn't realise that "Haven't tested amp" really means "Serious water damage and I'm trying to offload it however I can".... yet because he didn't know the condition I had no recourse.
The second one, while wasn't as bad, I had bought a set of calais dials so I could mess around with them. Day after I got it for like $2, he messages me saying the dials are scratched and aren't in the original selling condition.
No worries I thought, for $2 I still wanted to mess with them. Told him to send me some photos of the condition of the dials.
Got an email back with photos of what looks like a set of executive dials all scratched up. Told him that's not good enough, what game was he playing at. And basically what I got was "Oh, they're the dials, but I'm changing over my neighbours dials in a weeks time and I can have those for $20. Or we can file for item not received and not worry about it at all"
Not happy in the end, since I was forced to buy the amp in an unusable condition, yet if the seller doesn't want to sell me something for a cheap price, they can just hang on to it, and ebay can't force him to send it (or sell it to me)

You should post up the sellers ebay name on here.
A lot of people buy engine covers off ebay (I just got some last week) and its good to know who to avoid.
I hope it was not the guy I have been looking at:confused:

A CD player. After going through all the Ebay procedures etc for dispute resolution and also tracking the guys phone number down (he was in W.A also), 6 months later we got the money back through the refund process. Pain in the backside.

I haven't had too many bad experiences on Ebay myself. I received speakers damaged in transit, which I could do nothing about, and then a fake tag watch, that I got a refund for through Paypal, and the seller was delisted. I also purchased a football shirt off of a seller called "Bargain Kits" for a mate at work,.I didn't hear back from the seller after I paid for the item, despite sending numerous emails, but as I direct deposited into his bank, I couldn't use Paypal for a refund. I however enlisted my bank to chase the funds, and two months later got every cent back.
If you do your homework, check their feedback, and ensure you can pay via Paypal, you usually shouldn't have too many bad experiences.

Ebay oh yer!
I also got stung by a guy just outside of Brisbane when I purchased a Full copy of Nero7 or what I was lead to believe was a full copy.
When I went to update it like it asked it came up with a Fault saying " Illegal Copy please contact vendor" so I emailed the company in Germany with the serial number and so forth only to be told its is a pirated copy and not to use it or I could face legal action.
I contact the local police with copies of the email and the product in hand and they contacted the Federal police while I waited.
A well later I get two Federal police knocking at my door so I told the story and gave the all the info and the ebay sellers info they only took 2 weeks to fix the issue I got my money back and the seller was facing a big fine and legal action from Nero as well, last I heard he was to attend court in several charges.
Story ended happily for me but as for the seller I wouldn't like to be in his shoes.
Cheers.

Nice one. It is worth making the effort and persuing these, not only do you get your money back, and also help stop others from being scammed, there is a certain amount of satisfaction when they are finalised in your favour.

I laughed at that moron selling the Monaro on that online classified board in Sydney and he reckoned it was in Italy - dickhead...
A Florida bloke on one of the BMW forums I subscribe to bought a rare '00 750iL from a vendor in Florida, and it had super-rare Maritime trim - turned out it was a German import with serious paint issues and a engine low on compression.
The vendor vanished with the $$ and James had to bight the bullet and either junk the car or fix it up - he's 3/4 way through fixing it up and it looks beautiful.

Yeah it can happen. NOTHING in life is fool proof.
From my lengthy experience with ebay though, there is "positive" feedback, and then there's "POSITIVE" feedback. The average one will be very short and to the point like "thanks for my purchase", whereas the glowing one will be "awesome seller, fastest post, plenty of emails, PERFECT" etc..... Can be a BIG difference.
But, like I said, nothing is fool proof, be it ebay, trading post, your mates best friend, or even shops you actually go into, buy something, then have a warranty issue!
Homework is the key, ALWAYS!

Most reputable sellers ask the buyer to leave feedback first, as it's the sellers way of knowing the item was received in the condition it left in.
This will ALWAYS be a bit of a grey area for some buyers. What's to stop a dodgy buyer, who receives positive feedback first, giving negative feedback to the seller because they really thought that the item listed as "used" didn't arrive as a "brand new" item they were never offered, but they thought they SHOULD have got?
I've seen it with others!
You can't please everyone all the time.

Myself and 3 others lost 200 odd each on PS2's when they were over 300 in the shops. Seller took the money and didn't send, or respond to ebay dispute. Got most of my money back.
Another one I spotted a vr clubby with a buy it now of $10, add had just appeared so I bought it... Sent a message saying I think they made a mistake and the ad soon reappeared with $10,000. Still didn't get my clubby though.
The best ones though were some buy it now's that an aff member put up after rick won the championship. Obviously they thought it was funny but even though I did the buy it now, I still don't have the v8 supercar that was listed and won by me multiple times.... lol
btw, leave feedback late on the 89th day to avoid a retalitation negative...

Ive been ripped twice for not sending things. But the biggest thing that pissed me off was some stupid bitch leaving me neg feedback cos she didnt pay for an item for over a week, meanwhile she bought and paid for other things, i left her neg feedback and the cow did for me. And the other was a toss who said the turbo i sent was stuffed, which it wasnt and he made lameass excuse how it was stuffed. He left me neg and now he unreg with -3. If i cant drive there, within say 7 hours, and they have a few bad feedback or low, and its an expensive thing, i wont buy it.

I've bought a few things off ebay. Never once had a problem
I always buy from buyers who have sold at least 3 items on ebay before and have 100% and I send an email to the previous buyers just to double check.
Again, it's usually peoples laziness that gets them in strife.

The scam eventually made it to a current affair, lol. So I found out about a hundred other people are as stupid as me
