A friend of mine who works for a holden contractor said he is working on the Camaro, which means it will be coming here.
Whether it is built here or in Canada and then shipped here is a different story and may make a huge difference in the cost.

I wouldnt expect it until late 2009 or 2010. I'd put money on it actually getting here though.

Ah, No, it doesn't.
Holden is developing the Camaro here in Oz as its based on the VE Platform, but that doesn't give it an automatic passport back to Oz once production starts in Canada.
Although I'd love to see it here, i think it will come eventually.

:) Given GM, Ford and Chrysler are marketing more of their products here, I recon we'll definitely get it - just don't know when or how much.
Logic would indicate not too pricey, as we really do need a reasonable priced coupe replacement given the loss of the Monaro.
Put me down for a 427 Z28 in silver !!!! Who is up for this ????

The 427 engine will not be available in the new Camaro. There will be a 225kw V6, the 6.2 litre LS3 325kw and a supercharged version of around 390-400kw....Cheers John.

They will be the engines available. The cars will be built in Canada and will be available 9 months after they are released in the States.

Pricing is yet to be finalized, but expect in the $60ks for the V6 and upto $100k for the top of the line model. There will be auto and 6 speed manuals.
A lot will also depend on the release of the Dodge Challenger which is rumoured to be released about the same time.

Heard production begins end of 09 for a mid-2010 release.
Source inside holden that has seen the camaro in person.
The most stupid part about the Camaro is that it's built on the VE platform. So we better secure a deal to build the Aussie ones here or the import tarrifs will mean we're basically buying a US car with exported Aussie technology that's being re-imported back here.
No reason why the Camaro can't be a sub AUD$80,000 car...

Just so long as they don't try and sell it as a new Monaro.... It is a Camaro, sell it as a Camaro.
(and by that I don't mean that they need to reintroduce the Monaro, I just mean that we as Australians are smart enough to embrace the facts about the vehicles origins without bastardising the Monaro name)

My thoughts exactly!! Car makers walk a fine line sometimes between reviving glory days and pure marketing BS. Case in point... 'Boss 302'
BF GT... Please!!

I've got a bad feeling that the Camaro will be sold here at a big premium to HSVs or Holdens even though it will be a relatively cheap car in the US. No doubt we'll be solidly bent over on price.

We have a free trade arrangement with US - thus no tariff.
Same goes for Thailand and this is why all Hiluxes (in fact all similar utes), Honda euros etc are being sourced from there.
You will see more and more cars out of the states.
Could be good for choice but not for local industry.

:soap: I really think it would be not only greedy but stupid of GM to market the V8 camaro in Aus at over $100,00. There are other choices now for decent performance cars whether that be European or Japanese which I think would retard sales that would otherwise be very strong if they were reasonably priced.
Considering they'll probably be sold in the US for $40K or less and are pitched lower than the Corvette, I think it would be ridiculous of GM to sell them here at nearlly 3x the price.
If they were circa $65-85k I think they'd sell like hot cakes.
What is the consensus out there on pricing?

I reckon $65-$75k (Aus).

:) I recon you are right Pickles....
Anyone heard when they are being released in the US - I thought mid this year ( for a 2009 car, given the US method of year manufacture).
It would be great if they could fast track it and release them the same time in all markets..... imagine that, launching in the US, Japan, Europe, etc and Australia !!!! Now that would make a great promotion !!!!!!
