I was wondering how much "clunk" or jolt other VE A6 owners get when you start up the engine and drop the shifter into D, I get a fair amount and was wondering if it was normal or if maybe there was something amiss?
Mine's pretty harsh mate, but I like it cos you can feel when it's in gear, not like that 6 spd auto in the falcon, u can't feel if it's in gear at all. But that's just me, some people might not like the jolt.
Pretty normal to me mate.

Mine sometimes goes in with a pretty decent clunk. I guess check the fluid level as EfiJy says and if that's OK don't worry too much???

Try this:
Come to a stop, put the car in Neutral and with your foot still on the brake, pull the handbrake on. Release the brake and then shift into Park. See if there is still a clunk when you shift into drive after parking like that.
My 4A BA clunked most of the time until I did as explained above.

Mine only clunks if I'm too eager and give it a bit of throttle too early before it's shifted into gear.

They will clunk more after first start (cold) as idle speed is higher than when engine is hot.

Thanks SUPEROO, that did the trick...... no more clunk, I guess it must have been rolling fwd slightly or something like that.......
