I have a quick question, would a VE SS exhaust, bar the headers of course, bolt straight onto the VE SV6?

Not to sure about the rest thou..

Would the SS flow more then the SV6 system?

The VE SS and VE SV6 have the exact 2.25 inch exhaust system, identical from the cats back, same middle mufflers, same hotdogs, same rear mufflers.
I was looking at this myself having an SV6 and thankfully an exhaust place was honest enough to tell me not to waste my money.
I did however put lukey ultraflow rear mufflers on my SV6 which were for the SS and they flow a heap better, you can tell straight away, the onyl problem is that being ultra flow, if your car is auto you will get a bad drone.
I had to put longer and bigger hotdogs in to reduce the drone. However there still is some drone.
I wont be wasting anymore funds on my exhayst until there is a proper VE alloytec exhaust....if someone ever makes one.

I'm not so sure about identical rear mufflers, as the V8's have two tips per side, to the V6's one per side standard.
The rear mufflers will interchange, however. I wouldn't bother with the middle section, as described above.

Fair enough then. I really didn't think that the SV6 and SS exhaust would be the same design. Would a aftermarket V8 system go alright on the V6?
By the way, it's not for me, my brother is looking at getting one and we are already thinking about mods! LOL

The exhausts are identical as mentioned apart from the rear of the SS have twin outlets so I'm not sure whether that would change the note.
If you can find an exhaust place that is willing to put a v8 system on just for a test drive i'd give it a go but from what i was told it will probably drone a fair bit.
I was looking at the v8 system which is a 2.5 inch and was told to be careful as twin 2.5 in the v6 could be a little too big plus the v8 systems although producing a bit of drone on the v8 are set up differently as the engines have their drone range in different spots.
As mentioned if you can find an exhaust place that is willing to bolt a cat back system on and let you drive it for a bit that will be your best bet, even if u have to pay for fitting, coz one you have got it on and paid for it the last thing you want to be doing is paying for other bits and pieces to try and fix it.
my 2 cents worth.

there exactly the same exhaust only thing that was different on the SS was that it got twin tips each side.

The V8 Mufflers and alloytec are the same.
The only difference is the internal design to that of the 6 to the 8.
I have a SV6 and have a set of E series R8 Clubsport tips and mufflers on it, and it gives it enough of a note and burble for me.. and only cost me 120 bucks, a shifter, a jack and about 20 minutes :)
Cant beat that.

Dave are you sure the internal of the sv6 and ss rear mufflers are different or is the internal design different based on the HSV rear mufflers.
I was told by a few places and Holden dealer that the SV6 and SS/SSV have the exact same exhaust apart from a twin outlet for the SS?

Guys,
I've changed mine over to the SS and I have an SV6.. You notice a good 40% sound improvement over the old ones.
I still want it louder though lol!

Dead sure eddie...
The clubby mufflers on the 6-pot really do sound the part.. and would love the F1 System but unfourtanately just costs too much...
But yeah fairly decent sound improvement.

Yeah the F1 system sounds really good but is a little on the steep side.
Might have to do some searching around to see if I can find some rear clubby mufflers.
Any drone from it. My ultraflows rears sometimes really give me the Sh!ts, when i cant be bothered with the drone in 5th

just swap the mufflers - the rest of the system is the same
the mufflers do give it a better sound though (not by heaps)

There the same height standard and you have to be validated to get a picture.

the ss will sit ever so slightly lower, as the big v8 donk weighs a little bit more - hardly noticeable though

Thinking about getting an ex-SV6 system for my Lumina. Aside from the change of rear bar insert, what else would be different 'cat back' on the base Alloytech vs the SV6 version?
Mick
p.s. anyone got on lying around :nyuk:
Roonstain

qikmik: when you do the rear bar insert, the catback will fit straight on! the sv6 and lumina apart from the 195kw vs the 180kw are identical - the underside is the same, so no worries interchanging cat backs
any decent exhaust place will have one (or several) with a choice of quad or dual tips
i got mine supplied and fitted for 250 at sureflo
do it mate
good luck
cheers

I've already mounted the heat shield and rear hanger on the passenger side and it all bolts straight in. Not much else to it. The central, diff mounted hanger will be replaced as we change the system and we (the next door neighbour and I) will be cutting and shaping the Omega rear bar insert to suit the new pipes. I checked at the dealer yesterday and the reflectors in the insert are the same size and in the same position relative to the centre of the vehicle as the SV6/SS ones. That should make it pretty easy to measure the cuts. As I always say 'measure twice, cut once'.
Mick
Job done. Sounds pretty good too. The car now has a slight bark on throttle and is dead quiet at 60kph and 100kph with a little bit of drone at 80kph. The exhaust change took 20 mins.....the cutting and shaping of the Omega insert took a couple of hours.
Yes Dickie, there are only 9 screws/clips holding the insert on (plus the reflectors screw on through the insert and bar) however the fact that I have a 1600kg towpack means that there is little or no space behind the bar for fingers, let alone tools to remove them. Shaping was done with a jigsaw and took a number of attempts to get the look just right. Yes there are still a couple of little plastic dags to tidy up but the job passes the 5 metre test.
Here is the result. Looks great......sorry about the bed hair. I've already asked the missus about debadging. Apparently I am a child.

Just went for a quick drive with the kids. DVD for them in the back, iPod in the front for me, a nice note on acceleration and a dead quiet ride on the highway. Very happy with this mod. Thanks for the idea!! ;)

Hey guys,
I have been looking around for a set of SS or Clubsport mufflers for the SV6 and have found a set of V8 Calais rear mufflers. Would they be the same as the SS ones? Is there much of a change to the note on the SV6?
Cheers

I have an omega, trying to remove exhaust. I'm having a difficult time trying to unscrew the bolts/nuts at the flange just after the cats (joins to the rest of the exhaust system). The bolts side seem to have some weld spots and have a hard time getting the spanner on the nuts side. what else to do to unscrew the nuts?

Have you tried using a socket set?
Ring nosed spanner?
