Well my old man got me an Extinguisher for my SS as when i sold my old clubby i left the one i installed in that in there.

Has anyone put one in a VE ? just after thoughts on a good location.

im thinking of in the boot bolted to the battery box / case.

In the clubby i had it bolted to the inside of the passenger footwell. [pic attached]

Im just about to bolt one into my VE, but CAMs require that it's reachable whilst your seatbelt/harnessed in... that location i'd be struggling to reach i'd have thought.... i was thinking more like in front of the passenger seat, or even the drivers seat?

Cheers,

yeah i couldnt reach it while seatbelted in but once the seatbelt was undone i could get to it quiet easily..

can you get a picture of how you set yours up for me mate ?

Would something like http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showpost.php?p=1079643&postcount=546 that work.

I haven't a clue.

Not a VE but an idea anyway.

You couldn't reach it while harnessed in but with a normal seatbelt it would be reachable.

I haven't installed mine as yet but I plan to in the boot. Thats good enough for me as it has done the job in the past although I have only had 1 vehicle catch fire whilst driving and that was behind the dash. Easy enough to stop and open the boot but understand some people need or want it in the cabin.

Yeh i would prefer to have it somewhere less visible, but as part of the CAMS side of things, if you want to use race circuits that are CAMS circuits (most if not all tracks) your required to have them in a reachable position (when seatbelted/harnessed in) and also they must be bolted with high tensile nuts & bolts to a solid metal surface, they're not allowed to be just tec-screwed in with self tapping screws etc.

It's a bit of a pain, but if you ever need to use it, could be the difference between a car burnt to the ground or not :)

Cheers,

Colbey

Its good insurance to have one. I have always had one in all my cars and trucks just in case and the one time I needed it has paid for all future cars in my opinion.

Good luck with finding the best spot and when you do I would love to see where you put it.

Probably not much good for you if you need it to be cams approved but I attached mine to the back of the fold down middle seat. so can be accessed from the boot or from the cabin by folding down the seat.

Well if anybody installs one in a VE in front/under the passenger seat then I would be interested in seeing a picture as if it looks the goods and doesn't impede on the passenger at all, I would consider installing in that position in mine.

Only problem I have is it limits the movement of the seat.

Thanks Black VZ clubby.

I wonder if the same bracket can be used to mount behind the passenger seat, rather than in front of it?

I have a VE SS in Dubai and it came new with an extinguisher already mounted on the floor in front of the drivers seat (left hand drive).
Must be a requirement over there as my other car came with one also.
I am in Oz at the moment but I'll be back there next week and will try to post a photo then.

Many of the Euro makes such as Benz mount them under/forward leg area of the driver seat.

Some boot mount them, fine - if not into motorsport. Some good pics of installs in forum. The idea is to never have to use it, but ensure you and those that drive your car know - how to!

COMPULSION: - Individual EU states mandate the item as a requirement for registration. To date - AUS does not, but - the extinguisher, EU/UN 'spec' warning triangle ($21-75), safety vest ($6-18), and a 'nationally approved' first aid kit ($22-60) now reside 'fixed' in a re-working UN Convention on Road Traffic that will be up for eventual world adoption!

Purchase a hazard-warning triangle for your car to improve the ‘warning-time’ given to approaching traffic, at both crash scenes and vehicle breakdowns. Store it in the boot. I suggest Hella Part Number 2901 - $70, or from Auto Accessory Shops, - supplier "Prokit" - Item Number RG9212 - $20. A World/Euro standard triangle device exceeding AS3790 triangle performance requirements. http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/lic_drivesafebook_part4.pdf
