I bought a Harrop short shifter - never fitted it though.
No doubt their product is great, however i prefer the direct style shift as opposed to the remote setup.

I had a Harrop shifter in my ute before, as you said it's the cheaper option.
I'm using a RipShift now, if that says anything..

The harrop one replaces some of the linkage bits.

The two bits i've highlighted yellow are the bits i know are changed, the highlighted blue section im not 100% sure whether thats changed or not - i dont think it is.

I had a short shifter and replaced it with a RIPSHIFT.The difference is night and day. I thought the short shift was great until i was conviced to swap it for a ripshift. The RIPSHIFT smokes it. In my opinion.

Put a harrop kit in my vy clubsport and it was great, shifts were quicker and so much more feel. Reason i tired the harrop was my mate fitted a ripshift to his monaro and it was really noisey and reverse became really hard to engage. But most people seem to praise the ripshift product so i might try one in the ve.

This is almost exactly what I was going to post up too.
I had a Harrop short shift and loved it over the std one so done worry about whether or not you wasted your money. If you like the shift and how it feels and your happy with the price then dont worry about what anyone else says.
At the time when I fitted the harrop short shift I couldnt afford a rip shifter and the Harrop one did me fine.
I got a "street" rip shift fitted when I had the cam done and I can report that it is heaps better than the Harrop one but hey for twice the cost it would want to be.
Thr rip is not noisy and it is not hard to get into any of the gears at all. Its just great.

After having the Harrop short shift, i then went to a Rip Shift race version, yes they can be noisy, but the shift was GREAT, i have now changed the Rip Shift Race handle to a Street handle and i would say it is now perfect with no noise from that area. As said, any shifter upgrade is better than the original IMO..

Sorry to drag up a old thread but this is just the answer I have been looking for on the Harrop shifter. I have had 1 in the garage for months now & because of the "nothing compares a to RIP etc I held off putting it in. I only paid $100 for it so after reading this I am going to get it installed into the SS as soon as I can. (time for a service anyway, will be off to CHEVS ASAP)
As long as it is better than the standard shift, it has to be a good thing.
Cheers
