I bought a VR V6 Statesman for my daughter and it began stalling for no apparent reason. It will run great 90% of the time. Then will stall, usually when backing off to an idle, aproaching an intersection etc.
It has given her a few severe frights as the power steering is too hard for her to turn and the brakes go hard as a rock when it stalls.
I replaced the Idle Air Control valve, which seemed to fix the problem. So I though. After about 10 days, it's started doing it again.
Anyone got any ideas or similar experiences.

I'd be checking out the idle control valve again, maybe clean out the whole throttle body. Also do a check for the error codes, as these types of things usually show up, pointing to a particular sensor. I'd also be looking at the crank angle sensor, an extremely common problem on the commodore V6, as it produces the symptoms you describe. Does the car restart straight away?

My money would be on the crank angle sensor or DFI module, but if you get the codes, then that should point to the problem. Failing that, also check out the main earth for the engine, and also check that the battery terminals are clean and secure. Also make sure that all the leads etc are on nice and tight and are in good condition.

MAP sensor air tube from manifold to fire wall harness. My bet is Dad has tidied up the engine bay for her (like she'd care) and this has come off, happend to heaps of guys I know.

Thanks
I'll check out those coupla things. Hopefully have a chance to have a look at it tmrw.
Nah, RB30x, I didn't do any tidying up in the engine bay, not enough spare time, + V6 doesn't inspire me too much, I like engines with longer tappet covers lol. But I'll check out that hose anyways thanks.

And, NO, she's not getting a newer car, lucky to get that one. lol.
