I bought an old VS ute today as a work runabout - The hood lining is hanging down as if it has come unstuck from a backing
Do they come as a replacement part or do I try to get an upholsterer to repair it ?
Also the a/c selector dial that shifts the air from floor to face and screen doesnt work when you rotate it , but if you push on it it will change from floor to face . Everytime you start the ute the air is always directed to floor ?? Any suggestions

Could be a vacuum leak in the mode switch.

Once the hood lining comes down the thin layer of foam behind the lining starts to get crumble and once re glued normally comes down again soon after.
IT will probably cost you around the same to replace it.

Sorry I just re-read this thread.
By hood lining do you mean bonnet or roof?
I have given you the numbers for the bonnet lining.
The roof lining is 92049200DK upto 21-05-96 RRP$ 88.00 and 92053883DK from 21-05-96 RRP$ 88.00

Yes i'm no expert but have owned a VS ute for the last 5 years and "tinkered" with the inner workings of the radio/AC console.
My knowledge of the technical terms is very limited so please excuse the very basic description of my possible solution to your problem..
Has the vacuum connection which is attached to the back of the selector dial fallen off/become disconnected?
If anyone wants to edit this post and add the technical terms be my guest..
