hi ya'll, i was thinking about how well a dirt bike would go on the road with road tyres, 250cc of sorts and change over to dirt tyres on the weekend it would be a bit of a commuter with no freeway work. mostly 60kph-80kph

any suggestions for a bike 3k and lower?

also how long would it take to swap over the wheels? an hour and a half would be alright i think

They are called retards, I mean motards.....

And they are lots of fun, RMX250 would be a good starter.....

wr's and such also good. have a look around. I personally find changing tyres a prick of a thing. after racing mx for the last 9 years changing tyres ever 3 weeks or so i never did it, to hard. maybe try get a whole spare wheel set up, much easier... but may break the budget

if it was me i would just leave the knobby tyres on its a bit harder to steer on the road but if its only riding around town and no highway riding it will save the hassle of changing tyres on the weekends,

i would pick up a second set of wheels of ebay or something from a wrecker, rather than change tyres.

sorry i should have written my post better, i meant changing wheels with road tyres on, changing the tyres themselves would be a bitch. i'd definitely get a second set of tyres with wheels.

i wont be doing any 'huge jumps' or anything, just something to learn on until i get my P's (i'll be going for a sports bike then) i just want something that will teach me a bit of everything and that i can drop and not worry bout

It takes about 30 minutes to swap wheels once you've done it a few times & can be done for a reasonable price if your not after huge performance.

Cheers, Steve.

or if you're after something that will scare most sports bikes in the corners, get one of these

- sorry just re-read original post - definitely not under $3k, however you might find some useful reading here (http://www.vsmr.net/modules.php?name=Forums)
