I am going to start making some fibreglass parts OTR,gauge pods etc
i have got my PVA release agent, gel coat, resin and matting
my Q is about the release agent
I have done some researching and thought you ether use PVA or wax
but it says on the instructions wax then PVA
so do I have to wax it then put the PVA on or can i just use the PVA
thanks

i have found you can just use the PVA release agent but the parts come out so much easier when using the wax aswell, also depends on the complex of the molds etc
cheers glen

there are certian waxes that are compatible with pva and more that arnt compatible. if there not compatible the pva will fish eye like 2 pack paint does with silicone.
the only wax ild use with pva is new-ceara wax avalible from fibre glass international (fgi).
if ya after a sooth shiney surface on the mould ild paint the parts in a 2 pack paint first.
wax is not needed with pva but it does help for a easyier release. just be sure the wax is removed by using a few clean rags and wipeing it off 3>4 times with clean rags
apply the pva with a nice atomizing spray gun.
first coat should be only a light dust coat and let dry for a few mins. next coat a litttle wetter then let dry. and so on and so on.
ya will get a better result in finish if ya put more light coats on rather than rushing and only doing a couple heaver coats.
hope this info helps .
ive been fibreglassing and mould/pattern makeing for 23 years now and find the above the best method.
good luck with ya moulding
