Hi guys, I'm going to buy a Series 1 or 2 CV8 Monaro and was wondering if you had some advice on common problems and issues to watch out for on them.. ??
I would prefer a 6 speed and was wondering if there are any issue's with this gearbox?
So any tips etc for buying one like what to watch out for...? thanks !!

I know when i brought my series 1 CV8 new, i found out i had a dodgy fuel gauge and the front passengers floor area would fill with water when it rained...but other then that it was a great car to be seen in, probably not the nicest car i've had....but still a great 1 nonetheless.

The series 1 has a much bigger boot capacity than the series 2.

Nothing wrong with the 6 speed box.

Pretty much a good solid car. I'd be staying away from higher mileage cars, & I'd be having a good look at the interior--well worn seats (leather wears prematurely on seat bolster edges, particularly the driver's seat) can be difficult, & quite expensive to fix--also look for loose, stretched trim on doors.
I reckon, that apart from the VZ, the series 111 was the pick of them--245kw, & other improvements that were included for the US GTO like better paint, & underbody protection.
Apart from that, an accident free, reasonable k unit, with history & books, should serve you very well. Bloody great car I reckon.
Cheers, Pickles.

I have to agree on the boot space, it would have caused me major dramas personally.

I have a 2002 model which I purchased just over 2 years ago now. I would not settle for anything other than a Devil Yellow model, with a manual box, the one I found locally was a one owner from new with service history, with around 60,000kms on the clock. Since then I have put a further 40,000kms on it myself, and love everything about driving the car. A few mods and improvements have helped the driving experience, but I have not had a vehicle before, and I have had a few, that have brought me so much pleasure. I maintain it myself as I am a qualified mechanic, so the book no longer gets stamped, but I know it is maintained better than if I took it to a service station or dealer. For me it's a keeper, so I have no concerns about clocking up the kms, it should be enjoyed, so you have to drive them to enjoy them.

Umm thats not right!

There was....

Series 1 (vx) 225kw - This was the original V2 Monaro with the VX dash.
Series 2 (vy) 235kw - This model gained the VY dashboard, different wheels and more power.
Series 3 (vy2) 245kw - I believe this was the same as VY 1 but with more power.
Series 4 (vz) 260kw - This is the one with a smaller boot as it uses the fuel tank setup from the U.S Pontiac GTO. This Model had different bumpers, headlights, bonnet (scoops), dual exhausts and the PBR performance brake package.

*There is probably other changes between models I haven't mentioned.

Yes, I'm not sure when or what model the fuel tank was moved, but that was when the boot shrunk.

Fuel tank was moved in the VZ model, Which was when it was getting exported to the U.S.

From what I have been told, it was moved to make it safer when the car was in an accident which it was hit in the rear.

The boot is pretty small, but you don't buy a 2 door coupe for boot space.

Mine does only 6000kms per year, yet I often use most of the (full sized) boot.

Actually boot space is why my dad got a VY Monaro over a Nissan 350z. (Well one of the reasons)

The move to the VZ lost approx. 1/3 of the boot space !!!

Only problems so far '03 CV8 um.........bitch to keep cleen !! ( black )

'04 CV8-R water leak in cabin 9 finally fixed ) &
replaced steering rack, at 40k km

other wise, loving them both :)

Any series will do because you will be owning a great great car!!

My preferences is the CV8Z because of the twin exhaust pipes and the binnacle as standard plus the unique CV8Z stamped wheels.

But of course you can order these and add them on if you purchase the VY version.:)

Happy hunting!

I vote Series 1, it is the first, the interior ties together better, and we have a boot.

I previously remember someone talking about series 2 and so forth having less sound deadening.

MIne is like Davo's 5-6K a year Max, boot is used all that time with band gear.

These things are more than just 2 door commodores, they leap!
