Now that we know more about what this concept car is, it was time to give it it's own thread. This is a pretty good video of the car/truck/ute/thing

YouTube - GMC Denali XT Concept/ First Impressions (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irX3z9zw6wU&feature=user)

It would be good if the bed was large enough to carry a large ATV, the vehicle had part time 4x4 with selectable 2wd hi, awd, 4x4 lock and 4x4 low. The other thing it needs is diesel-hybrid option, higher payload and towing capacity. They should also make an SUV version. Then it really would be practical, and a good choice for the future.

An SUV version would be great, Holden need something full-size above the Captiva

Holden really missed the boat on the whole 4wd/ SUV over the last 20 years.

Many manufactures have cashed in on this market, but holden really failed to expand their range.

For ages, all holden had was the jackroo which did fairly well, but not many people remember the monterey or frontera.

The surburban was a great try, but i felt the styling was a little off for the australian public (too american if you know what i mean)...

Hopefully some of the larger SUV will come to australia and if this 2 mode hybrid is as good as GM claim, adding some of those to the mix will really help holdens sales... :)

Just on this Denali XT , my first reaction is to dislike it... maybe it looks better in real life or i might just need time to grow on me...

The "Holden" Suburban was just a lousy effort. There are people out there that have big families and tow horse trailers, boats, caravans etc, and they are built for that. The problems were.

1. It was an outdated design. The body style already ran for 10 or so years in the US before Holden tried selling it in Oz. The model was getting a major change over in the US at the same time Holden released it.

2. It wasn't the same truck, it was built in Mexico with a dashboard from the RHD Blazer that just didn't fit properly. It really wasn't put together as well as the US versions (that's saying a lot for back then). The interior wasnt customized for RHD, such as 2nd row seating adjustment to access 3rd row from left side. The new models have dual flip forward 2nd row, so it wouldnt matter.

3. Holden didn't do enough to get the towing capacity on the petrol models up to 3500kg, that is why people want big vehicles to tow, Holden settled on 2.7 tonnes. (You would be surprised, this was a factor for "horsey-people")

4. Holden sold the Suburban from two or three dealerships in every state? What a joke.

5. I don't think Holden really had any intention of promoting the Suburban brand well, I don't think they planned on the newer replacements and improving it, marketing it properly. I think there were some left-over production parts in the US, GM gave Holden a small opportunity to use them, so it seems.

I agree, the Suburban was doomed from the start, imagine selling us a 10 year old design that was about to be replaced in America and expecting us to pay $80 grand or more for one. Holden did not take it seriously enough.
We should really have had the Tahoe instead anyway which would have been more within people's budget and requirements.

The full size pick-ups however are a different matter, these would be hugely popular if Holden could bring them here and sell them for a fair price.
So many people would use them for tow applications, tradies and farmers want them too.

Full size pick-ups are one area Holden could really make some good sales gains and they are hugely profitable too.

Did anyone say dual cab VE UTE with WM wheelbase.

Thats what the Denali is based on and designed right here in OZ. It will be showing at the Melbourne Motor show later this month.

Edit: anyone else notice the Camaro dials and dash......Holden giving us sneak peeks at future models again.

I wouldnt call it a VE ute. When Holden change just one line on the grill of the VE, it will be called the VF. This is a completely different body AND powertrain. Only the chassis is the same, and they really do need to stiffen up that suspension to make it competitive as a commercial vehicle.

I think that is an excellent looking vehicle.

Rear view would be restricted and the interior is pretty yuck but the rest is good.

The "midgate" design is the most impressive bit of the whole car and probably the only real step forward in car design that this car offers. I can see this midgate being developed further before it reaches production though because I dont think any car makers would allow it to go to market like that. The fact that when you fold the seat down you are opening the cabin to the outside air is an issue with things being sucked in or the load being able to move forward and enter the cabin some how. I think they will need create something that seals the cargo bay from the cars interior when you fold the seat down for safety's sake.

Great concept though.
