Guys,
I notice that the diff atio on the VE (Manuals) is 3.45 as it was in the VY era. Didn't the VZ's change to 3.73. Why did they change back again. I don't see too much talk regarding diff gears and the newer models, does the 3.45 suit the VE better or is everyone still fitting 3.93's to the VE's too?

There is a thread on here already .......:search:
No 3.93 for the VE that I am aware of.
I think the gear box ratios in the VE are different which has an effect on the final drive ratio selection.
Currently ... there is only a 3.73 ratio as the shortest diff ratio for the VE. This comes standard in MANUAL VE HSV, but is a nice and popular swap for the 3.45 in the manual V8's
3.45 is standard in MANUAL V8's (Non HSV)
3.27 is standard in HSV Autos
2.92 is standard in V8 autos (Non HSV)
Cheers
Who cares if there's threads already? I'm sick of seeing people get told to use the search button. It rarely works properly anyway! So what if someone asks a question that's been answered already? Just link them the answer and be done with it.
3.73 ftw though :D

u will find that the different ratios in the gearbox mean that the final drive on the 3.45 manual V8s non HSV are close to 3.73 compared to previous models
same with the 3.73 in the HSV manual with the different ratios in the gearbox make it like 3.9s in the previous models.
3.9 are available as crown and pinion from the states to change on the existing diff but are not easy to chase up but should be available in AUS soon enough
this with the gearbox rations as mentioned would be like having 4.11s in the manual car

The Calais-V of mine is an A6. It started the first 200k of its life with 2.92 stock diff - I then upped it to 3.4s which was ok. I'm now running 3.7 in it.
Within the next couple of months it goes to 4.11. I have had the 4.11s on order for the past six mths and the source of much frustration, but looks like things are about to happen LOL.
IMHO 3.9 or 4.11 is where its at with the capacity of the A6 in tow.
I know 2.92 going up to a 4.11 sounds excessive, but hey, ya only live once....
