im in the process of changing my strut top bushes and bearings and the passenger side strut tower is worn at the top, it looks like something has been rubbing on the inner edge of the circle bit and its eaten a fair bit of it away

how serious is this?

i recently had something similar on my vt ss, the rubber bushes were cracked and making a bad rattling everytime i went over a bump and i drove it for a week and it bent the pins, if drove it longer my mechanic said it could pierce a hole, he charged me $40 to replace both sides including the pins and labor,
the rubbing is fairly common on the passenger side as mine looked similar but said that it would cause no dramas.
all the bset

Looks like the strut top has been stuffed for ages to me.

thanks and spot on guys
the strut top bushes sit in the cup just below the circle cut out bit so nothing should be hitting the tower unless the strut top bushes are worn.

and yep my bushes were totally flogged out! they were only changed just over a year ago

I also just discovered this ugly problem on my VS. Was informed that this make & model chewed up more than any other make "combined".
An obvious weekness in design...... keeps us busy though
