hey,
i have used the search button and i cant seem to find wat im looking for, as when i type service so many things come up. ive read thru some posts and the same thing holden said in regarding only voiding the warranty if the mod causes the damage.
I have a stock VY ss, bought it last year and came with 3 years warranty.
the questions is im looking to put for the moment cat back exhaust and soon extractors and OTRCAI and prob a mafless tune.
so would it be better to forget the warranty and just get the car serviced at marranos or keep going to holden?

Dealer warranty = headaches, lies, bulls$%t, time wasting & the runaround. As well as questionable quality of workmanship, as well as further damage to your car. This is my personal experience. Its not worth my time & effort to go near a dealership. Marannos looks after the avalance, & most warranty stuff i paid for my self. If you want it done right then see marranos.
Definately get your car serviced a decent workshop over holden, well in my opinion anyway.
I scrapped my extended warrenty.

Stop kidding yourself and just get your car maintained by Marranos. You know that you are in good hands there ,unlike some dealers where the work is done by the apprentice.
It is always good to be able to speak to the person working on your car ,unlike the blueteam or the red team or yellow etc at some dealers.
Regarding warranty , you are spot on .......Your mods are not covered but you are entitled to the rest.......Cheers John

Firstly ... what "sort" of warranty came with the car? Factory or Network Q or whatever it's called these days?
That will play a part in how much value there ACTUALLY is on the warranty.
If it's an aftermarket warranty provided by holden ... I suspect you will be required to get you car serviced with the dealer of purchase or it will invalidate the warranty, or something to that effect anyway. I'd be clarifying this sort of information first before making any decision about where to get it serviced.
Many of these "warranties" have an assload of exclusions and limitations so BEWARE.
Re: where to get you car serviced ... having been to both Holden Dealers and Marrano's for work on my car ... I would HIGHLY recommend Marranos. The reasons would become apparent once you've utilised their services.
In the instance that the warranty attached to your car is geniune Holden warranty as comes with the car when new ... it won't matter where you get it serviced as long as you get it done.

the warranty is thru the dealeri bought it off, cert used car warranty so i have to get it serviced at a suttons holden.
before i go and and change it, i will get my car checked to make sure no issues.
i think its fine besides today i found passanger seat is very very hard to slide but i'll have to call up to see if its covered.
my main concern was the mods and esp when i get the tune done dont want holden to stuff anythign up. and plus to make sure the car is looked after. heard of a lot of good things about marranos.
ive got 1,500kms to my next service which is 50,000.
i'll prob change since marranos do proper log book servicing.
thanks for your help guys and getting back so quickly.

I agree that a forum sponser LS1/2 expert is the way to go, HOWEVER:
I also have a used car warranty and they have replaced:
Rebuilt engine
new gearbox
new clutch
new radiator
new clutch slave
Next service, they will be replacing:
interior trim x 2
Passenger window winder mechanism (playing up)
Sure, the service is more expensive and less thorough (apprentice), however, as per the above list, I would be up for an arm and a leg if I went else where.
I'm sticking with the dealer for regular services until the warranty runs out. I have had some pretty bad luck so far, so I'm not willing to risk it.
As for Mods, you can go get mods done, then take it to the dealler for servicing if you want. They havn't said a word to me (only got cat back).
Good luck.

My boss has been reamed time and time again on his extended warranty, yet he still believes it is "security" and "piece of mind".
He has a 4.5 year old Barina.
He's had to replace Brake pads AND ROTORS at 22,000kms, then 19,000kms later and the last set 17,000kms after that. They've rung him up whilst he's had the car in for its standard servicing to tell him this. Of course there can now be no evidence of how bad they really were, as he's had to replace them.
If he doesn't follow their recommendations, he loses the extra warranty, if he doesn't take the car in to their dealership every 6 months for servicing, he loses the extra warranty, you transfer ownership of the car, you lose the extra warranty and the over pricing they are getting him for is rediculous.
$700+ for pads and rotors on a Barina, then not even getting 20,000kms out of them.
Then he had an issue the other day.
The car stopped with a fault light. As it was 22kms from the service centre, they wouldn't pay for the tow the whole way (they have a 20km limit).
They also wouldn't pay for the tow at all, until he could prove it was a fault of the car. So he had to leave the car there, then orchestrate a local mechanic who had the suitable fault diagnosis tool to go out to the stricken car. Then get time off work to meet the guy to open the car, and see what the problem was.
This cost him $130 out of his own pocket which the dealer isn't reimbersing, then pay for the extra 2 kms of the tow.
The problem was a "faulty coil pack", which isnt covered by the extended warranty as it is a "wearable item". Another $600 thanks. And no, you can't get one from the wreckers, or you'll lose your Extended warranty
So the dealer extended warranty doesn't actually cover anything that can deteriorate over time.
5 mins after telling him this, they rang back telling him again that he needs new brake pads and rotors.
Amazing stuff.
Yet after all this, he still reckons the extended warranty is worth something.
I would have told them to F Off, got the car with a tow truck if need be, take it to any other mechanic and put a cheapie set of after market brakes in and a second hand coil pack. IF the brakes even needed changing :soap:
I would never trust a dealer backed extended warranty

Yes, with your warranty you must get it serviced at the dealership you bought it from (I'm sure you can use any of the Suttons dealerships) if you want to keep your extended warranty.
If you don't want to keep the warranty, get a Used Car Inspection Report on your car from an authorised workshop and use that report to get any warranty repairs (if there are any) done @ Suttons. Your extended warranty book will give you an idea whether any of the items noted are warrantable or not.
Initially, I wouldn't show the Service Advisor the report, just mention the warranty problems with the car when you book it in and see what they come back with. If they don't acknowledge the warranty repairs (no fault found, etc) and you are certain they are...use the inspection report to back up your claim :yup:
Some dealers don't mind mods, others aren't so easy going.

I had the Calais serviced last friday at Heartland in Penrith, and asked about the mods/warranty issue. The head workshop bloke told me that getting a mafless tune would be fine. The only thing they would ping you on is FI or engine internals.

I hear you. I have had to 'convince' the dealer on many occassions. My dealer has a habbit; when you talk to the mechanic, they say 'that engine noise is terrible, you should have that fixed immediately', then the service manager says 5mins later "don't worry about it, it's normal operating noise".
The problem is that most customers don't really know what is going on, so they accept the initial response, e.g. "that item is not covered under warranty". If they read the warranty book, ask around (friends/mechanics), they will be better prepared to argue with the service department. In most cases, the service departments bill the warranty provider, so as long as the paperwork is right, they get paid (at the full fare) and you get the repair completed.
I do admit, it should not be that hard to get a warranty claim paid. It should be straight forward.
As for parts prices, my dealer has let me source the parts, which they then pay for. E.g. my reco T56, I got it from Mal Wood and the dealer paid Mal direct.
You just have to know how to push the right buttons. Although again it shouldn't be so hard.
i think you should get that in writing if i where you.

any modifications done to a standard car will and can be knocked back from the dealer and service centre.if you are worried about your warranty do not get any mods done to your car.if you don't care about the warranty go ahead and gget the new exhaust and tune.but if you have problem's i bet you an arm and a leg the dealer will laugh at you for warranty claims as u have modified your car.

funny you say that i asked the same question at heartland penrith about my clubby and a tune and they told me it would void the warrenty

Get an independent inspection report done and have Holden fix any warranty issues, i will guess that most will not be covered unless there mechanical and i think they only cover to $1500 or something, things like Electrics, A/C interior etc are not covered by some warranty, then take the car to the quality workshop you spoke of to really take care of your car and get value for money and quality work.
I have canned my extended warranty as they couldn't get the factory warranty right to start with.

Slightly off topic - i found this via a search.
Friend has a 2001 barina with a faulty coil pack. Dealer quoted 860 dollars - i've done a search and you can buy new ones in the Uk for 47 Pounds.
I can't however find them in Australai - any idea who stocks them, how much - and are they easy to install?
cheers

Neither would I.
I've had terrible experiences with two large Sydney dealerships on my previous cars, one a Suttons franchise, and will never buy or service a car there again. Suttons extended warranty wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.
My current car has been getting servicing and modified at Marrano's for a while now and i've never had an issue. Nothing but quality service and workmanship.
If you don't want to keep the warranty, get a Used Car Inspection Report on your car from an authorised workshop and use that report to get any warranty repairs (if there are any) done @ Suttons.
^^ Do what Kirst said first though. Great advice.
By the way, Hows the new exhaust going? I see you decided to go the sureflo system.

As for my car.......... lets just say Marrano's has seen a fair chunk of my spare cash. I guess I should have mentioned this before, but if you don't wan't to spend more money or car modifications, don't spent much time looking around Sonny's workshop

Now you have to tell her you need a mafless tune to save money on fuel. That should cheer her up with petrol soon to hit $1.50 a litre

what else have you done to it?
ive been looking for new rims, trying to find a really nice set of black ones.
i love the VE R8 rims powder coated black but not gonna spend that much on rims alone...still have a but of tread on it so still have time...hopefully tax return in a few months will do.

I can agree with that comment. With all the nice cars there getting turbos, texs, ripshifts, zorsts, & massive brakes, it is hard to just get servicing only done. I could easily see my way to spending 20k+ on the avalanche without trying. If hsv dont do a wagon, then that might just happen. The wife needs more tax deductions anyway.
